On Friday August 28th, the art collective known as Interrobang brought its exciting show “Finders Keepers” to Springfield, while the art focused event at the Jim Draper Studio lacked any artistic focus.

The new gallery See Saw Space in Springfield was the scene for one of the most exciting art show we have seen in Jacksonville. The Finders Keepers show featured original screenprints, photography, paintings and sculpture of the likes you won’t see at First Wednesday’s Artwalk. Most of these pieces would be more at home in gallery in New York or L.A. or Austin. The work oozes street savvy swagger and popular graphic design elements. You can tell these young artists are influenced by the likes of Ryan McGinness, Aesthetic Apparatus and the contemporary street art movement. The collective will be one to watch over the coming months.

On the other end of Pearl Street was an event at the Jim Draper Studios. An email sent by Jim Draper prior to the event described it as “an event to draw the greater Jacksonville creative community and those who support the arts to discuss issues including arts funding, PBS and arts education”. The “discussion” turned out to be people standing around a stage listening to Bill Nelson talk about his time as an astronaut and relay a story about the war in Iraq. Granted we missed the beginning of Bill Nelson’s speech, but we did hear the last 8 minutes, we must have missed the art discussion.
