[we finally hit bottom, seesaw space, 2005]
SEESAW Space is establishing itself as the premiere gallery to view cutting edge art & artists in Jacksonville. Much like the prior show, SEESAW’s newest exhibition, “We Finally Hit Bottom,” takes the concept of crime and allows the artists work to flow around it. Each of the four artists in the show exhibits a criminal dossier to accompany their work, listing their “crimes”, or pieces of art. This was pulled off brilliantly by mounting the dossier, complete with picture and fingerprints, next to the art, serving as both a label and price sheet.
We will avoid any easy attempt to categorize the art and just say it all blends seamlessly from one piece to the next forming a new wave art experience. Our favorite piece would be the collage of hand-drawn pistols, each mounted in a distinctive wooden frame, and hung on the wall to form a larger piece. The theme of crime and a dark criminal underbelly was prevalent throughout the show and juxtaposed nicely with the stark-white, uncluttered interior of the gallery.
We Finally Hit Bottom will be on display until the end of October. For an appointment please call 904.534.9676 or email seesawspace@yahoo.com.
