Picking up where we left off last week we would like to review the “Final Friday” art event that took place last Friday in Springfield. While Springfield residents rallied on the corner to save the historic Jewish Center, people from all parts of town moved in and out of the three galleries featuring work for the evening.

The highlight of the evening was definitely the show at SEESAW Space. Dustin Harewood, an art teacher at FCCJ, blew our minds with his amazing charcoal drawings of reggae and hip hop artists. He even threw in a self-portrait for good measure. Tropical fish bursting with color and a cartoon-like style juxtaposed nicely with the black and white charcoal drawings on the opposing wall.

We continue to be impressed by the openings at SEESAW Space. We spoke with the gallery owner of SEESAW and he informed us that they will continue to host shows into 2006. Black Friday was truly a vibrant scene and we were excited to see Springfield making strides to become an integral part of the arts community.
