City gets serious about promoting walkable neighborhoods. New pedestrian signs in brooklyn
The new portion of Riverside Avenue that runs through Brooklyn to 5-Points has to be the safest stretch of road in the city. Pedestrians will rejoice at the 8-foot sidewalks and signs warning drivers to yield to pedestrians. Now all you Riversiders on your way home from work have no excuse to not yield as you come barreling off the Acosta. Pedestrians rule the streets!
Bike riders say “Hoo-ooo!” for the new bike lanes which seems to be appearing by default on new roadways. Maybe the city really is serious about promoting a more vibrant, walkable Downtown. Step one, make sure bikers and walkers can make it downtown without getting run over by a bus. Check!
Crosswalks that count down the number of seconds you have to cross the street rule! It takes the decision making out of crossing the street, you know what we’re talking about. We first saw these in downtown Tampa and we loved them right away. Just another emerging trend in our soon-to-be pedestrian/bike friendly downtown.

great job! We can thank RAP alot for pushing the walkability issues that stem from a 6 lane highway along the river. Its all we have left really. The I95, Riverside Avenue corner, formerly known as Brooklyn.
Still its better than the alternative. Does anyone know anything about midnight mass?
Are you referring to the a Critical Mass movement in Jacksonville? http://jaxcriticalmass.blogspot.com
I know someone was trying to get someting started, but we think it might have fizzled.
