This Friday, May 26th, there will be a critical mass bike ride. The ride starts at 5:30, so meet up in Riverside Park if you want to ride.
I was at the first Critical Mass and two pieces of information I would like to impart to anyone doing this for the first time: stay together and look out for yourself.
Staying together avoids leaving stragglers behind and endangering them, strength in numbers people. Look out for yourself. Yes, please do, just because the person in front of you is cruising through that red light, doesn’t mean it’s safe for you. Look both ways, just like mama said and it’ll be all good.
Critical Mass Jacksonville will take place on the last Friday of every month. For more tips on riding and general information check out the Critical Mass Jacksonville MySpace page.
Critical Mass is an event held typically on the last Friday of every month in cities around the world, where bicyclists, skateboarders, roller bladers, roller skaters and other self-propelled people take to the streets en masse. Critical Mass is not led, and as a group has no goals other than to meet once every month and enjoy the security and companionship of riding, rolling and traveling through the city together. The general philosophy is expressed by a widely used slogan: “We aren’t blocking traffic; we are traffic.”
