The newest Metro Jacksonville study pits Downtown Charleston vs. Downtown Jacksonville. I don’t think I want to know how this one turns out. They do a nice job of comparing the cities based on parking signage, urban parks and using urban retail to support and create critical mass. Would it be bad if I said, “who cares, I just want an Urban Outfitters“. Probably.

Ieyasu is being transformed into “Chew” by co-owners John Insetta and Jason Parry. They said they plan to open in August and will offer a menu of gourmet salads and sandwiches.

Pioneers-4-Jax is having a Rooftop Social Friday (tonight) at 7 p.m. It’s hosted by Downtown residents and business owners and the guest speakers will be Council member Suzanne Jenkins and Officer Wally Butler from the HITZ Program. Landing owner Toney Sleiman is scheduled to attend, as is City Council candidate Earl Johnson Jr. Call 355-4190 for more info.

There’s a commemoration scheduled for Confederate Park. It’s June 24 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a video of Jacksonville during 1914 and Civil War artifacts by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. RSVP by June 16 to aarvalleyofjax.org or call the Jacksonville Scottish Rite at 355-7633.

SPAR Council is hosting a “visioning session” for the EPA and the Corps of Engineers. They are asking all community members to come draw their vision for the Hogan’s Creek area. Monday Jun 19th, 2006 from 7:00pm- 9:00pm at the Springfield Woman’s Club (7th and Silver).
