Urban Jacksonville

that TSI flyer was done by Mark Lynn (http://www.myspace.com/markslynn) — he’s done quite a bit of stuff for The Pearl, TSI, local bands and local businesses. he’s got a show tentatively opening in august at SeeSaw in Springfield.

If you are ever in DT Charleston, be sure to check out the Urban Outfitters. The building use to be a Theater similiar to Florida Theater. Much of the interior details have been preserved including the balcony and Stage. It is very unique and beautiful retail building. Check it out if you get the chance.

Vicupstate, if there is ever an Urban Outfitters around I am all over it, so you can be sure when I make it to Charleston I will visit.

I thought there was a UO planned for the SJTC? Personally I think they should put one in the actual town center on the actual St Johns. But I’m biased.

A few weeks ago when you called me, and I told you I was in Harvard Sq… I was actually standing IN Urban Outfitters.

I think that UO would be the prefect type of retail for downtown.

There was an Urban Outfitters planned for SJTC, it was in the original store list. While I would love for it to be downtown too, I think SJTC is actually the best place for it and has the best chance at getting one WHEN they come to Jax.

While Urban Outfitters prefers to be located in urban” areas like 5-points or downtown, they also like to position themselves close to colleges. Plopping one in SJTC would give it proximity to FCCJ and UNF. At this time I think they would prefer clientele over location. Althought it is my opinion if they ever put in Urban Outfitters in Jacksonville it would be mobbed at all times of the day. You can’t get the type of stuff that Urban sells just anywhere. You might be able to find a few things here and there in shops like Armor Image and Anomoly, but these smaller places will never be able to match the diversity and product assortment that an Urban Outfitters brings.

One more thing before I sign off, Urban Outfitters is aware of Jacksonville I am sure of that. The Anthopologie is owned by the same parent company that owns Urban Outfitters.

Now I’m really depressed. They’re here, they’re unimpressed, and if they come, they’ll come to our college town/exit.

There is an Urban Outfitters at the Millenia Mall in Orlando. That’s about as un-urban as you can get.

SUNSET PLACE, MIAMI
COLLINS AVENUE, MIAMI BEACH
THE MALL AT MILLENIA, ORLANDO
YBOR CITY, TAMPA
LAKE VICTORIA GARDENS, PALM BEACH
BEACH PLACE, FORT LAUDERDALE (this fall)

I guess suburban outfitters was taken. Collins ave and ybor are actually urban, the rest, not so much. Much like the apple store I’d probably go once a year. However, if it was downtown, I’d go weekly.

dude! NO Urban Outfitters! they are satan! they totally steal teh work of small time labels and then pass it off as their own! they are totally the wal-mart of fashion stores. boycott!

John, thanks for your comment. I can understand your disagreement. But it’s not like everything UO does is a rip-off. They also sell original items from Nike, Diesel, Modern Amusement, and on and on…It sucks that the designers at UO feel like they can plagiarize other designers stuff, but OU isn’t all bad. Besides with the bad press they are getting I’m sure they will start holding their in-house design team to a higher standard.

Wow, you all really like Urban Outfitters. Going back to the original post by MetroJacksonville, it wasn’t really a study. It was just a photo essay of a recent trip I took to Charleston and some urban oriented design issues I noticed that could be possibly applied locally to assist in making our downtown a more vibrant and entertaining place to be.

I’m just walking in the door, after spending a few days in Philadelphia, so expect a similar photo oriented thread later this week.
