Thief in the Knight 2 video and interviews
I headed down to the August Art Walk in Downtown Jacksonville for to shoot some video and do a couple of interviews. My first, and only, stop was the Thief in the Knight 2 show at the W.A. Knight building on Adams street.
I had the opportunity to talk with two of the artists, Shaun Thurston and Kenny Salvador. We talked about what Thief in the Knight is and how it came about. I tried to interview all the artists, but it was impossible to track them down with all the people coming in and out of the show. If you missed the show, I’m sorry, you really missed something amazing. B-boys, awesome art, free beer, cool people.
So you ask, what about next month? Can I head to Thief in the Knight in September? Well that is up in the air, if we are all lucky it will be around for another month.
I hope everyone will take a sec to check out the video. Also check out this July Art Walk video from downtownvision.

Kenny’s stuff looks great, you can really see the graphic design and graffiti influences in his work.
The Thief in the Knight show was by far my favorite exhibition at the Art Walk. Kenny Salvador’s pieces were especially spectacular; he had some slick mixed media canvases and a few others that reminded me of the days when 80s graffiti artists were taking from the streets and into the studio for the graf-on-canvas thing.
From a city perspective, it’s nice to see Jacksonville’s art scene picking up steam. The wife and I have hit a few of the past art walks and weren’t terribly impressed with the whole thing versus the same types of events in other cities. It’s much better now, thanks to enterprising artists like the ones who put on this Thief in the Knight thing.
If you missed it… well, you missed it!
Hah! The Kenny Salvador meme begins!
Mico Fuentes is that arteest.
the artists included:
Kenny Salvador (big wall with KEN at the bottom),
Mico Fuentes (the prints and glass door installation),
Chance Isbell (small pieces on doors, and zombie door, left wall),
Ryan Johnson (Back right corner by the bar, collages and painting),
Mark George (rippled plastic pop pieces), & Shaun Thurston… most of the pieces in the flickr photos titled artist unknown, are actually by Mico Fuentes, (except the canvas with the black tree branch coming down from the top right corner… that’s me)
Thanks to everyone for coming out and making it great show… It looks like we are going to be able to do another one next month, so cross the fingers and rub the voodoo charms.
Awesome Shaun, I will update the flickr photos with the artist names. Please tell the artists to come check out the video/flickr/blog.
I’m very happy to hear there might be a Thiefs in the Knight 3.
Well I was just trying to find you on myspace, but instead I found all this stuff about you being famous. I like your art there man. ;)
