For what it is worth….The year that Joey moved to Springfield, I saw Wayne and Deloris Weaver at the Springfield Tour (you know where people have an open house type of thing and you go inside). We said hello to them and they smiled and said hello back.

Thats a very one-sided view of pro-sports. To say that the city of Jacksonville hasn’t benefited from having an NFL franchise is completely absurd. Hence the reason why most cities assist in keeping the franchises (ie. stadium costs). Wait, did I mention that the city of Jacksonville owns the stadium? Or how about that Wayne Weaver bought the new advertising boards under the impression that it would help offset the deficit the Jags were in when the Superbowl, college games & monster truck rallies were held there. Weaver is invested in a business that is in the red and he’s refused (not threatened) to sell the team when the rumors started. The rumors were started between the media, the city and the seating exec for the Jags. I think it was possibly & if so, a very good marketing ploy on their part considering the stadium is now sold out. Wayne & Delores Weaver are very involved in charities and such around Jax and have done many good works for the poor people and children growing up around violence.

PS. we are season ticket holders and support our local team… it’s kind of like supporting your local businesses, which it is…

The Del Rio comment is from first hand experience, too. Met the guy about a week after he had been in town at a friend’s house (long story- my friend’s parents own jacksonville), and he was TOTALLY not cool. And like i said, i want to back teh Jags, but it is my own immature inability to leave personal politics out of my sports that prevents me from doing so. But, at least I know I am at fault.

I can’t comment fast enough. We need to get fawn a jersey. I laughed out loud at the douche. Del Rio has NOT yet invested in Springfield to my knowledge.

I agree that pro sports are whack, except for my brewers, suns, and juventus, ok bad example. It will really improve when Condi is running the nfl.

Fat houses and bad contracts aside (with 2 sides to every agreement and your fair city is on one side, spread the hate, f the city while you’re at it. Especially with the ribbon boards). I’m still rooting for the home team and I’m glad the owners see the same promise in the springy as we do. I was just pointing out that they have helped in the ongoing “fix up” of Springfield.

I’m not saying you have to like the Jaguars, but I do root for them (despite their problems and right wing owner) because they represent JAX.

And I definitely agree on the fill. Shadows are cool too. Three d that.

Not a problem. Although I hate pointing this out, it is pretty much the case with all pro sports these days. I wish i didn’t let my stupid hang ups effect my opinion of our team, but I do– that’s why I like NCAA sports better. Yes, they’re corrupt, but they don’t effect me as an average citizen of this city.

Plus, Del Rio is douche of the highest order.
