Urban Jacksonville

Ok, I’m jealous as all hell. Tony Allegretti was one of four people who had the opportunity to sample the new Chew menu. Chew is a new restaurant opening on Adams Street soon. It is located on Adams between Laura and Hogan, across from Mudville Grill.

Here is a sampling of Tony’s sampling:

Riblet mini sandwich with some horsey and saur kraut, solid, B+, but only cuz I don’t much eat the riblets.

Right now Tony is running a series on ground-floor retail in the urban core:

CHEW is going to be amazing! I must admit a personal bias, but trust me, this is going to be a restaurant that has GOOD food and a cool ambiance. I cannot wait till it is open!

The Chew MySpace page promises “High-end handcrafed sandwiches and food in contemporary downtown environment.”

Hold on, now — they’re promising sandwiches AND food? Since when did sandwiches shed their “food” status? Or maybe their sandwiches are not actually edible sandwiches, but rather plastic simulations, a la Nippon storefronts.

Also: what the hell is “handcrafed” supposed to mean? Part of me hopes it’s a reference to NASA’s Comet Rendezvous Asteroid Flyby (CRAF) project. Learn about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Rendezvous_Asteroid_Flyby

If so, then perhaps their sandwiches are “cosmically enhanced.” We all know what that could mean :-)
