Dog Days of Springfield

I had a moment to talk with Karen Kaufman, the founding member of the Springfield Animal Care and Rescue Club and one of the organizers of the Dog Days in the Park. In the interview Karen is quick to point out that lots of SACARC members pitched in and made the event happen.

Here is the interview (5:09)

The event was pretty impressive. Springfield’s Dog Days event dwarfed the one in San Marco a few weeks back. I am not saying there is any competition, I just want to point out how passionate the Springfield neighbors are and note how much work they put into the event. If you missed it this year, you can come next year. Karen told me they plan to hold the event on a yearly basis.

In addition to the interview I have a picture of me in the dunk tank and a team photo from the community softball game.

Karen Kaufman also wanted me to add:
Just wanted to add a few things to our earlier conversation…. We also help the feral cats in our community by adhering to the Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) philosophy whereby we trap, neuter (via First Coast No More Homeless Pets Feral Cat Clinic) and re-release the feral cats into their own colony.

Wanted to also add that all of us play a vital role in our organization. It is no one person that makes our group so successful. We are all unique but are united by our love for animals and ensuring their humane treatment. Even in our “individualness”, we seem to get along famously such that our meetings are more like parties…but very efficient and effective gatherings.

Each of us brings a special talent to the group – without which we could not survive. For example – Lynn Williams – our V.P. – spearheaded the Dog Days event and has worked closely with the city to organize the event’s infrastructure and backbone, Cathy Campbell – our Treasurer – houses most, if not all, of our foster dogs and cats and works tirelessly to feed and care for them, Jacquelyn Blanchard – is our web designer and webmaster and has done amazing graphics and design work, Michelle Guglielmo – our PR Director – created fantastic PR packets, press releases and other pr materials for our club and the Dog Days event, Karla Stremitzer – our Secretary – keeps everything sane and organized from our animals’ medical records to our ordering forms and interrelations with other local organizations, Peter & Lita Choe help organize and volunteer at every event and pick up and foster dogs and cats.

We also have regular helpers – such as Daniel Blanchard – who helps with the Parks relationship, and Derek Hudson who assists with IT issues. Not to mention the many many members of the community who contact us regularly about lost, stray and abandoned dogs and cats… Thank you again for your interest in the Springfield Animal Care & Rescue Club.
