Tiara Shoes and Accessories
10/27/06 • Posted in: Downtown Jacksonville, Retail by Joey Marchy 4 Comments »Do you wish you could choose downtown as a shopping destination, like in the big cities? Our first stop is Tiara, located in Downtown Jacksonville, is a destination for unique shoes and accessories at decent prices for almost two years. I interviewed the owner Maria Jones via email. Here’s what she had to say:
Mackenzie: What do you specialize in?
Maria: We specialize in women’s shoes and accessories, including handbags, belts, a small selection of clothing (tops and dresses), local handmade jewelry, as well as gift items such as candles and soaps. The shoes we carry are very unique — typically not found in local department stores or at national shoe chains — and all sell for under $100! We also work closely with a local jewelry designer, who is very experienced in doing custom jewelry designs for wedding parties or other special occasions.
Mackenzie: What makes your store unique?
Maria: Tiara is the only women’s boutique in Downtown Jacksonville. Most boutiques carry specialty items that also have “specialty prices” to go along with them, but we keep prices similar to those at malls or department stores, but you won’t see the items we carry all over town!
Mackenzie: What is your best seller right now?
Maria: With cold weather finally settling in, there are a lot of customers looking at boots. But classic work shoes or fun weekend shoes are always most popular!
Mackenzie: Any events coming up that we can get the word out?
Maria: We always stay open late to participate in the First Wednesday Art Walk, so next Wednesday Nov. 1st, we will be showcasing watercolors by local artist Meredith Kerley. We are also planning our Two Year Anniversary party for mid-November, details TBD. During the first week of December (5th-9th) we are hosting a jewelry show which will showcase over 500 pieces of handmade jewelry by local artist Drema Farmer. It’s a great time to pick up holiday gifts!
Mackenzie: Anything else you’d like readers to know about Tiara?
Maria: Tiara’s Owner, Maria Jones, grew up in Jacksonville and attended college in Boston, MA, where she gained an admiration for boutique shopping. She is one of a handful of retail pioneers in the downtown area who have “big city” hopes for the future of urban Jacksonville.
