Pizza. Delivered Fresh to Historic Springfield
11/01/06 • Posted in: Springfield by Joey Marchy 11 Comments »Tony Allegretti, you know, the guy with the best blog in Jacksonville and Burrito Gallery partner, is helping to re-open Angelos. Angelos is an Italian restaurant on in Arlington, and apparently has, or had, quite a reputation when it was open. Tony posted this on the SPAR message board:
Hello, Springfieldians. I am helping open up Angelo’s Italian Restaurant on University Boulevard N (by JU). We’re nearly done. It will be a fun family restaurant with a cozy bar and bocce courts in the back.
We will also be featuring delivery only (Pauly’s New York) pizzas and want to explore delivering to Historic Springfield.
Here is the deal. Large cheese pizza $8, Extra Large cheese pizza $10. $1 toppings each. Must live in the Historic Springfield neighborhood. Available every night from 6-9 PM.
Cash only in the short term though we should be able to take credit cards and checks soon. Pizzas are all right now but we will have a large menu soon. We do have garlic knots and I’ll throw in a free order of those if you mention the Springfield Special.
Call: 745-4815
This has the potential to be very successful. Big Tony’s downtown seems to be open sporadically and Papa John’s in Riverside will not deliver to Springfield after dark. Not that Papa John’s pizza is very good anyway. I like how Tony utilizes the message board as a way to talk directly to the Springfield community. Now we just have to wait and see how good the pizza is…You can bet I’ll be calling Angelo’s soon.

sounds like a good idea to me. i’ll be ordering. though papa john’s has delivered after dark to my house, which is at the corner of 5th and Hubbard.
It was a while ago (6 mos at least) when Papa Johns denied me delivery after dark. They may have a new policy by now.
I will definitely try it.
How cool would it be if Burrito Gallery delivered? Fish tacos and beer…
Another good delivery is Big Pete’s on Julia St. They have always been on time and it is a family business. Not open on Sundays.
Domino’s delivers…if you need something to use as a paint scraper.
Looking forward to ordering pizza. And garlic knots! What a delight to have these doughy treats available and have them delivered to Springfield. Wow! There must be a real New Yorker behind this somewhere. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for cannolis.
what does big pete’s serve? i don’t cook, and i love delivery food. also, does anyone know a good cheap chinese delivery? i’ve picked up from the place on margaret street, by the publix, but i don’t know if they deliver to springfield.
Adam B. - Big Pete’s serves basic pizza stuff: strombolis, calzones, pizzas, salads, wings, drinks, etc. They’re a good family and they know SPR. I like Pizza Palace crust a little better (chewyer…if that is a word) with the corn meal on the bottom, but Big Pete’s is really good, esp. with the delivery factor.
Don’t know about delivery Chinese.
I remember about a year ago, no one delivered to Springfield after dark. Papa Johns does now, or they do sporadically atleast. I’d rather have Domino’s than Papa Johns, but i’ll take what I can get. Only thing w/ Angelo’s is cash only… eek… I would have to run to the ATM first, which kind of defeats the purpose doesn’t it? Glad Tony’s thinking about us though.
Yeah what is up with all us non-cash-having-fools? I have to scrape quarters together for a tip tonight. Luckily my wife had some cash, I never do.
Exactly… plastic only in my household! I need the sky miles!!
It is strange, I don’t think I’ve had any decent amount of cash in my wallet forever, if I’m going out I always withdraw tip money but I’ve totally gotten out of the habit of having cash on me. But, I will have to drop by the bank and get some money out for Angelo’s pizza, I didn’t even know Papa John’s delivered and Domino’s… I’ll let the Simpsons take care of that:
Lou: Sounds like a motorcycle gang might be heading our way.
Chief W: Yeah! And we’re in no way equipped to handle that. This ought to fool ‘em.
[affixes a sandwich board-style sign to their roof lights that obscures them. The sign reads PIZZA]
Lou: But Chief — what if they like pizza?
Chief W: Way ahead of you, Lou. [attaches a large magnetic sign to his car door that reads DOMINO’S PIZZA]
I loved Angelo’s when I used to work at JU. I was so sad when it closed, but I’m glad to hear they are opening back up!
