Flog reports Grassroots, a natural foods market in 5-Points, will be opening soon. In the article Who needs Whole Foods Anyway? Flog writes:

as pictured, the store looks incredible, with exposed brick and ductwork and stained concrete floors. and contrary to speculation that it would carry mostly bad-tasting vitamins or generally just be kind of half-assed, the store is well-stocked. its tidy little shelves are (being) filled with juices, grains, energy bars, baby food, boxed stuff and bottled stuff. there’s a big frozen food (tofutti cuties!) section, too. by the time of the grand opening, which is set for late january, the produce section, deli and juice bar will be up and running. in short, the store is comparable to the original native sun location, but a bit smaller and more stylish.

I have been waiting for Grassroots to open for a while now. After seeing the interior I am much more excited. My wife and I will definitely incorporate Grassroots into our shopping arsenal. We already hit both Regency Health Foods and the smaller store the Grassroots owners have in Mandarin. The Greenwise section of the Riverside Publix has a nice selection, but it’s limited to food. If you want hygiene products, vitamins or supplements, you’re out of luck. Grassroots could help fill the non-perishable void.

I must admit I am still excited about Whole Foods. I see myself shopping at Whole Foods once a month as a treat, just because it is so far out of the way. I could see stopping at Grassroots on a weekly basis to pick up whatever I can’t find a Publix. So to the people at Grassroots, figure out what Publix does not offer in terms of natural/organic/vegan products and you will fill a valuable niche. And erode some of their market.
