Urban Jacksonville

I was at the unveiling party for the new MOCA Jacksonville website and logo. I spent some time talking to Michael O’Connell, the logo designer, and pretty much recorded the whole event. So for my second podcast you can listen to the entire ceremony and get some insight on the new logo and web site redesign.

I am still working out the pod-kinks. There is some disturbing breathing and crappy audio levels going on. Here’s a link to the podcast I created for MOCA Jacksonville website launch.

My company, nGen Works, designed and produced the website for MOCA Jacksonville. Beyond the awesome visual appearance, there are some things that make this website special: web standards, photo gallery display and smart organization. I started describing all the things I just mentioned, but it started sounding like and advertisement for my company. So I stopped. But here are some links you should check out:

Nice looking site. Any chance that MOCA Jax adds a large exterior and well lit sign to the exterior of takes advantage of that large sidewalk by putting some outdoor seating in front of the cafe?

Won’t Shelby’s and the new Cafe Nola have outdoor seating?

In terms of the sign. They replicated their old sign which was metallic lettering, no lighting. Maybe in the future, they will, but it probably won’t be for a while since they just installed the sign. Now might be a good time to talk with Chamblin’s to see what type of signage they are planning. Maybe if other businesses along Laura street saw the impact a lighted sign can make they would join in.

Don’t miss the upcoming show. Nick Cave’s work is amazing, but we do have three other shows opening the same night.

As to thelakelander’s ideas I really do like them both. But the reality is that the well lit sign would cost money that is not bugeted at this time. I do like the sidewalk seating and will mention it.

As to the presss conference, it was fun and pretty much what I expected. I would have liked to see a few more news people in attendence but I understand that it was a launch of a web site and new logo. Big news for us, yes, but probably not as news worthy as another murder. And unfortunately, I was mistaken about seeing Judy Wells, from the Times-Union. Someone said they saw her and I just repeated what I heard.
