Saturday the 19th. My wife, my son and I all head up to the Springfield Farmers Market at 6th and Main. We’re excited to see what the Springfield Small Business Association has planned. We anticipate stands of food vendors, crafts, music, antiques and a lively scene in general. Instead we find nothing, just an empty parking lot.
We head next door to the Springfield Station Bar and Grill (formerly Main Street Bakery) to ask if anyone knows anything about the farmers market. Jim, the owner, is dumbfounded as he was told to prepare his restaurant for a crush of people. Springfield Station has a special table set up with coffee, danishes and to go cups for the farmers market. I also spoke with a musician who said he had come to the farmers market to inquire about his band playing later that day.
So what’s going on? I have no idea. I was scheduled to talk with Francesca, one of the organizers, a few times last week but I never got around to it. Maybe she was calling to tell me it had been rescheduled. I hope to speak with her later today and get more details.
