Urban Jacksonville interviews Entertaining U (and vice-versa)

After four days of trying to edit down the audio file from last Thursdays interview with Entertaining U, I have given up. I am throwing the whole 1.5 hours up on the Urban Jacksonville podcast. I just can’t find the time to edit this thing down. So…
I met with three members of the Entertaining U staff last Thursday at Shanty Town. They requested to interview me for an upcoming Downtown living issue. I wanted to talk to them about the revamped look of EU. So we interviewed each other. More rambling discussion than interview, we talked about Downtown, Springfield, Riverside, gentrification and other things. It clocks in at 1:36:50. Whew thats a lot of talking. Enjoy.

If you want to play a drinking game and get really drunk do the following: get some beer and drink every time you hear me say the word “like” or anytime EU asks me a question and I don’t really answer the question. Ha! You will notice I very seldom answer the questions they ask me. I plan on posting all the questions and my real answers later.
Here are some of the questions they asked me:
- Would I consider myself a community activist?
- What do I think we can do to improve things that are wrong with downtown infrastructure eg retail, transportation, food and parking. Can the citizens make changes and if so, how?
- Will people moving from larger cities feel like they are taking a step down when they arrive in Downtown Jacksonville
- How long have I lived in Jacksonville/Springfield?

If it helps any, I use Sound Forge for editing. For mixing and some volume control issues I use Acid Pro. However, if you have no experience in working with sound, there is a small learning curve. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.
I look forward to downloading the interview tonight.
Yuengling?? dude, they’ve got Guinness on tap….
joey, it was so great to meet you last week and thank you for posting this. i’m sorry it wasn’t easier to decipher (i was a little afraid that might happen). if i get the chance i am going to at least try and transcribe the parts where i was talking about the design of EU and post it on my blog (http://rachelbestblogs.blogspot.com/). thanks again and i’ll talk to you soon!
guinness is great if you want to have a stomach full of beer milkshake. the stuff is too damn thick. yuengling is the shit.
Yeah man I love the Y! It\’s a poor man\’s Newcastle. Guinness is good too, but not all the time.
You blaspheme!
Guinness is the perfect food. It is a meal in a bottle.
Hey man, I love the Y too, but Shantytown is known for its beer selection, 60 or so….If I catch you up there I’ll buy you one…
yuengling is cat piss in a bottle
oh, you’re crazy! i’m pretty picky about beer, and i love the stuff. my room mate from college worked at a killer bar with about 150 taps, and yuengling was still my choice for a light beer. for something darker, try out rogue hazelnut nector. it’s amazing.
i would rather drink a guiness, take a piss in a glass, and then drink that than drink yuengling. it just tastes gross to me.
fawnleibowitz - thanks for the visual of a cat standing on its two hind legs, pissing in a bottle.
I always wondered how Y got that unique “tangy” taste to it.
And when I am on a budget, I DO drink Guinness then drink my piss afterwards.
Oh, did I just say that out loud?
“And when I am on a budget, I DO drink Guinness then drink my piss afterwards.”
Is that what the “P” in “PCollins” stands for? :)
No, the “P” stands for “Pleonasm”, which is what it stands for…the “P” that is…just before the word “Collins.”
Rachel transcribed a portion of the interview. You can read it here + see a not so flattering picture of me: EU talks with Urban Jacksonville Blog
