Art Walk is coming around again next week, February 7th, and I wanted to tell everyone about an awesome show going down on Adams Street at the W.A. Knight building. I received an email from Shaun Thurston last week about the event he describes as “a collaborative surface of temporary interest”:
The show consists of many artists coming together at different times, on different days, taking turns adding to, or subtracting from the communal wall of varying panel sizes. The “experiment” is called “a collaborative surface of temporary interest”. It’s a focus on the ever changing and unstable face of Jacksonville’s art scene
As I type the wall is being painted by a select few artists. Painting has been going on for the last week and is invite only. This one of a kind show mimics the art of the street and parallels it’s temporary nature. Someone will adds a piece to a wall, then someone will go over (most likey) or add to it. Someone may chime in “nice work” or “toy” depending on the skill of the artist.
It’s the natural progression of the street. To see what I mean, check out Hendricks Avenue at the train tracks or this scene under the Big I construction in Brooklyn:
This type of collaborative art installation is going on all over the country and it’s very cool to see something like this taking place in Downtown Jacksonville. Shaun helped organize the show so kudos to him and his ongoing efforts to bring cutting edge art to Downtown Jacksonville. This show is meant to illustrate the unstable face of Jacksonville’s art scene, but one thing that has been stable in the scene is the killer shows that go on each month at the W.A. Knight building.
