Are there any code violations regarding the way the building has been enclosed to keep people out? If so, then let’s notify code enforcement.

I have asked SPAR to notify Code, but please feel free to also do so.

I spoke with the owner to let him know and there is a crew on the way. It is also under contract.

I heard this also… I heard that we should be hearing an announcement in the not too distant future… Any idea what its about?

code enforcement has been on this place 11/27/06 special master hearing.. “harry and amanda briggs have a contract and have met with city officials and all parties are excited”

order allowing 60 days to correct problems such as “accumulation of junk or derelict property”, “facade in danger of falling and causing injury”, “horizontal members of ceilings or roof is sagging or buckling”, “roof structure is deteriorated and unsound”, “trash, litter, or garbage on exterior of property or structure areas”, “structure constitutes a fire/windstorm hazard due to deterioration/damage & health and safety of public is at risk”, “new electrical work is in violation of electric code (no permit obtained for work) “dwelling is infested with rodents” “structure is in violation of Property Safety and Maintenance Code 518, Part 3″, “structure is in violation of the building code” :etc.. these were violations found on 8/30/06… a hearing was held on 2/5/07 “case deferred due to EPA holding up sales transaction, set subsequent inspection for 30 days”

Van Winkel has been intent on divesting himself of all downtown properties all this year, as evidenced by the sale of our building on Hemming Park and his pullout of the Main Branch group.

He has been particularly keen on getting out of the Park View Inn as all four attempts he has put together to renovate the building have ended up in disaster.

I just spoke with him as well, to let him know about the opening.

He has an independent security company based in springfield that is supposed to do this, and he is calling them immediately.

This reaction is impressive. However, as a former street kid, I wanted to mention that if this “entrance” is visible to casual inspection…there are more that might take a closer investigation to discover.

Further, it will prove difficult, barring ridiculous measures, to secure this building from persistant squatters.

But it sounds like the “big picture” is already being worked on , so …just a few thoughts

also, there is evidence in that photo of quite recent utility location on that sidewalk…
somebody wants to know were the services and such are located. I dont know what it might mean not having been to the site.
I suspect the right of way/property line is the building line..so it might be of little signifigance…
any city projects going on or planned in the street on nearby intersections?

I guess. It looks like someone wrapped a chain around the fence. I could probably squeeze through the gaps in the chain
