Dear Jacksonville,

Pick something that inspires you Jax. Are you excited about growing up? Would you rather stay living with your folks? A lot of people I know love living with their folks, but for me, I moved when I was 17, different time and place. I just wonder what you want to do. You sort of need a guidance councilor. Might I suggest, though they are nice, avoid those that say something like, "your folks are smart enough to help you" or "I know just what you need". They don't know, they can't deal with their own crap let alone yours.

Let's see, what are your personal successes?

1. The library downtown is good. The whole Hemming Plaza area is good.

2. The Art Walk has great intention.

3. There hasn't been a big fat fire in 108 years.

4. The river walk is awesome, esp between the landing and Riverside

Personal failures:

1. Lack of progress regarding racial co-habitation

2. Lack of good-ole-boy follow through, ie Courthouse, any business whatsoever, etc.

3. Lack of personal attention to humans that might conceal dangerous intentions, you know people respond when spoken to affirmatively.

4. Someone please tell downtown that we don't need the ship horn to tell us the time nor the Baptist light to tell us if we're saved or not. Puh-leeze.

Ok, so your homework, Jax, is to think for yourself. Every little bit of you is on fire, you're an ancient teen-ager. We have things to do! Children to raise, college to attend, businesses to start, food to grow, dental plans to address.

Affectionately, I do adore you, please know that. I just want you to be happy, but happiness is hard later on if we don't take care of business now. It's sort of like how kids drop out of school when they're young and can't conceive of the financial limitations they've set up for their futures and then they get angry and grubby when there are expectations they can't meet. Don't get mad, just finish your homework and plan for the future.

Love,
Your Auntie

@Damon: I think he meant 'Urban Jacksonville Lifestyle'.

Jacksonville Lifestyle could include the lifestyle of people on a bridge with a chicken leg hanging over the crest, to what you're implying.

Course, it's possible that Joey's trying to rebrand the Jacksonville Lifestyle...as being UberUrban. :)

What, pray tell, is "a Jacksonville lifestyle," Mr. Marchy?

(I hope it's more than Monster Truck Rallys and Jag-wire games ;))

Downtownparks,

This is just what I'm on lately. I ebb and flow depending on what interests me the most. Besides Metro Jacksonville does a better job covering development news.

Urban Jacksonville is slowing converting into a Jacksonville lifestyle blog. Kind of like a Jacksonville boing boing.

Would the "letter" form be expected to fill the entire zine?

Al Gore has some interesting thoughts concerning about the *unconscious systems* found in contemporary *political discourse* in his latest book.."Assault on Reason"

Many of Lakoff's ideas have been embraced by segments of the left blogoshpere.

I think a more confrontational approach might be neccesary to change Jax.

but Dear Jacksonville promises to be well worth the effort.

Ideas about anonymity bring to mind recollections of the conversation at the last bloggers "meetup" at LB...

And questions about Jackie Brown's legacy.
