Urban Jacksonville

It’s been a good run, but this Wednesday will be the last show at the Thief in the Knight gallery. The W.A. Knight building will begin renovating the popular Art Walk venue sometime this month. Thief in the Knight has grown over the last year to become one of, and possibly the most, popular Art Walk destination.

It all started when the owners of the Knight building began looking for a way to become part of Art Walk. They found a way in Richard Reichstadter and Shaun Thurston who offered to put on Art Walk shows in exchange for an art studio/place to work/hangout for the other 30 days of the month.

Richard said he’s thankful for the opportunity he had to use the space and bring so many great shows to Art Walk. Richard’s looking for a new Downtown venue for Thief in the Knight. He wants to keep doing shows for Art Walk and hopes someone with available space will step into the light.

I’m honored for the Color of Munny to be the last show taking place in the Thief in the Knight gallery. Also on tap for the final Art Walk show is the premiere of a slasher movie shot in the W.A. Knight building. You will probably notice some “blood” on the floor and walls, but don’t worry. It’s all part of the installation.

The Thief in the Knight will be sadly missed. Richard and Shaun are great guys who put on some great shows.

thanks chad, and everyone else whos hard work and valuable time went into making these shows happen. good times, more to come. BTW due to time constaints on editing, the slasher premier is TBA. However, if Morrison Pierce answers his GD phone, we can at least give these MFers an Fing preview.

it was cool while it lasted. there were some realy cool shows for Jax.

Art isn’t really about wall space thought, is it? It’s about ideas and concepts.

If folks decided to use public space as their gallery they could. It’s just about the initiative to do so and letting go of attachments to the work. The Art Walk would be a perfect space for random art objects.

It would be great if the curators of the shows at the W.A. Knight building decided to curate the public spaces of Jacksonville instead of being tied to a physical space with four walls and a roof.

This is the type of art I believe we need in Jacksonivlle in order to educate folks about what is possible with contemporary art. There are no rules. No boundaries. No borders. No walls that can contain great concepts and ideas.

So in essence….Gallery Schmallery….

Too bad, but hopefully a new venue will arise…or no venue like Byron says…art anarchy!
I am glad to be able to finally see Color Of Munny tonight b/c I was out of town during the opening. I am also very interested in this slasher flick – Morrison had mentionad a horror thing he was working on when I last saw him, hope to see it soon.
