I think if you renovate your house, or try to maintain your house on a budget, using some common sense...you'll be just fine.

Yeah, not all of us are here in this grand utopian paradise by choice. My family's been here long before it was anything historic and while I still consider it better than most neighborhoods in town, it's just the place where I'm stuck. I'm here simply because it's the cheapest option for me right now.

I fixed up the house because it suited me, I don't give two shits about guidelines. All 30-some-odd of my window casings are about as metal as church burnings in Norway. It's what works best at what I could afford. I try to keep it looking nice but beyond that, it's just a house not a monument to some bygone era that some folks try a little too hard to hang onto.

Yes god forbid you live in a Historic District and actually be expected to follow Historic Guidelines. If you don't want to be held accountable then don't speculate in a federally designated historic district.

I live right around the corner from your 2 pieces of shit houses. Maybe if you did any kind of real rehab to them they would've sold. I have friends that live near those houses and they told me a while ago that you half-assed the rehab of at least the blue one on 5th.. Covering up the shitty work with a coat of paint doesn't make the problems go away. Just cause the paint looks new doesn't mean people are going to jump up to buy it.. I actually considered the blue one when you had it listed for $45k, for my mother. That's when my friends told me about the shoddy work that was done. Now I wouldn't give you $45.00 for it.. I hope you lose your shirt now, you deserve it!!

it only took how many months? that i had to drive by that embarrassment of a city building that looks like it was falling apart and im willing to bet that there was no permit pulled to do that work

im sure some other home owners thinks some of thier rules are just crazy

I do enjoy truth in advertising. That's pretty funny. I wish our house had had a sign that said "AC Dead, Termite Infested, Bizarre Wiring, Don't Believe the Inspector, Present Owner Won't Pick Up His Crap When He Leaves, Dog Pee Saturated Floors." Oh well. Love our house anyway.

The neighborhood has really cleaned up around there since they put the drug dealers away. But, some of the bad elements are getting out and returning.

Annie, if you are at 6th and Ionia, our little house is between 5th and 6th and I don't mind getting shamed into cleaning up the place. It is an eye sore right now, but it's been too damn hot to clean up the yard. (it's the one with the boarded up windows). We did that to keep the drug dealing activity out of there. Our plans are to fix it up and get it rented.

Plus, if you ever need any crack, you know where to go.
