Anonymous - Glad you still buy CDs. Most of our emphasis in the past has been on vinyl for a few reasons, just one of them being that the CD buying demographic is shrinking. As a general rule, if large chains carry the album then 90% of the time we won't be carrying it on the CD format. Email me about what type of music you like. deadtank at gmail dot com.

Jason - I think I complete overhaul would exclude alot successful business opportunities aside from those who want to sell $200 jeans. Just look at San Five Marco Points. The only thing separating that is a the ditch between it. We don't need another one of those situations. Tony said it best. "Please feel free to comment on your experiences once it actually exists."

This is confusing me though. "I don’t think that this will not attract any further retail in Springfield and don’t think that the majority will treat this sort of place too seriously." To clarify your double negative, you are saying this will attract further retail. Seriously. Yes.

Adam (not beaugh) - YES it IS a big plus.

So, Tony A is involved with this? Nothing against Inertia (and/or Jaxcore-if they are involved?) but Tony simply being a part of this is a big plus, I think.

It will definitely be developed. When, is the only question.

It is really too bad if you have never been a quality retail store in a crappy building.

Even if it is less of a wonderful blessing than the farmers market we're going to open it up. Please feel free to comment on your experiences once it actually exists.

The day Mack says he is ready to tear it down is the day we start looking for another space. In fact if he needed us to vacate faster than our agreement we would be ready as we have a back up space, though not nearly as sweet.

I'm not sure what Inertia will carry inventory-wise but I know he ordered a bunch of new music and books.

There will be a completely seperated record store run by the Grand Royal Treatment. I know there will be a lot of hip hop, soul, funk, jazz, etc, but also early 90s to today indie, college, rock LPs. I'm not sure at all about cds though.

From what I understand, Mack is just trying to make use of the building to help get something going until he moves forward with his redevelopment plan. He is trying to help the neighborhood in whatever way he can. It take time to get plans, get them approved, get everything in place. Literally years. I think Mack wants to break ground next year, but when dealing with all the fun crap that goes with developing a large plan, it may take longer.

Also, the cost of the space on main has come back down to earth. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 a sq ft for at least a couple of locations I know of. There has never been a better time to open on Main.

Last I heard, Mack does plan to put a new commercial building on that site with ground floor retail and offices above. The project was supposed to start within a year or so, but I'm guessing that timetable is getting moved back in response to the current real estate market conditions. Sooner or later, though, the current building will be torn down and replaced.

Adam, you are right. Putting a cool store in a crap stucco building will have the same impact as putting a store in a fucked up used car lot that makes our main street look like a beaten up ghost town.

Is it not in Mack's plans to redevelop that site in the near future?

I am happy that someone wants to open a retail store on Main street, however putting it in a crappy old building that used to be a car lot does not really lend itself to a quality retail store. The building and it's lot is still an eyesore and needs to be redeveloped.

I personally feel that this will end up like our wonderful farmers market we were blessed with not so long ago. What Mack really needs to do is tear that shit down, build quality storefronts, then give 'em a space. If you do that, business will build around them. Currently, If one wanted to open on Main St, most landlords are asking way too much and are not willing to negotiate with small business owners.

I don't think that this will not attract any further retail in Springfield and don't think that the majority will treat this sort of place too seriously.
