Art Walk tonight and Antarctic/Buffalo Tears @ Shanty Town
11/07/07 • Posted in: Art, Downtown Jacksonville, Events, Music by Joey Marchy 26 Comments »November Art Walk is tonight from 5pm-9pm (Rain or Shine). Seems like the rain will be holding off this this one so it should be pretty nice. It will be a good time for everyone to check out Nicky G’s Brick Oven Pizza on Bay Street just East of Ocean.
I’m working on a review of Nicky G’s that I’ll publish later this week. Let’s just say it’s awesome. The are owned and operated by local fire fighters, and they offer a wide selection of Italian food. Oh yeah and the “hot” wings are HOT, no doubt! View photography of their family and friends, along with a mural painted by Ross Corrington.
Before or after hitting Nicky G’s head down to Opaq at TSI where Matt and Katie will be presenting “Process Organic”, the first show at Opaq in over two months.
Process Organic an installation by Lance and Tina Veitch. This installation explores the relationship between the natural and surrogate worlds. Lance and Tina have dramatically transformed Opaq and this show is not to be missed.
Process Organic opens for Artwalk Wednesday Nov. 7th from 5-10pm. The show will re-open on Saturday Nov. 17th from from 9-11pm. Opaq Gallery is located at 333 E. Bay St. Downtown Jacksonville (above TSI)

Official Art Walk Map
When you are done at Art Walk drive to Shantytown in Springfield for Antarctic with Afuche (Brooklyn) and Buffalo Tears. This should be a very good show, two local bands and one from Brooklyn. If you get there before 7:00 you can take advantage of the new happy hour. 2 for 1 draft beers from 3:30 to 7:00. 7 days a week.

I saw lance and tina last night. I’ve got the official Process Organic statement (sent from a writer in NYC!) at my site. It sucks they are not on the art walk map. I’m glad you posted. People need to know about this show. I thought I was going to get to adventure out at art walk today but I think I am slinging PBR on the back patio. oi
ps- I predict 40,0000,oo with this weather.
Isn’t it a little strange how there is no trace of TSI on the map what-so-ever?
There’s no way it’s a type-o, because we were on the image of the map last month. Our marker was actually removed.
Either way, the gallery looks great. I saw it for the first time since they began and I’d have to say, every show at Opaq is getting more and more involved.
Definitely come check it out!
Nicky G’s Pizza is really good - AND THEY DELIVER TO SPRINGFIELD!
B- do you get reminders when they need info on artists and bands etc?
The G’s hot wings are HOT. Like 3 alarm hot. I like em….
doesn nicky G’s deliver to the 5 points area?
Nicky G.’s has got the best pizza and wings of ANYBODY, anywhere in Jax. The pizza is the best I’ve had from all the pizza joints in town, I’ve tried alot of them, including Al’s. They’re a shoo-in for next years Folio best of.. Their wings are killer, they put Hooters and Dick’s to shame.. Good job guys!!!
I definitely want to try this pizza, but…better than Moon River? Impossible.
Moon River quickly moved to second on my list after trying Nicky G’s “The Deuce”. But I still love going to Moon River for a slice and the greek salad, as well.
Moon River is way better than Nicky G’s. Nicky G’s has one thing I like , their location. Its across the street from where I work.
If they had better crust and used more cheese their pizza would be greatly improved.
Chad, you’re my boy, but I’m going to have to disagree on your assertion that Moon River has the best pizza. Granted:
* i hear it depends on who is cooking the pizza
* i’ve been there 4 or 5 times and the pizza is marginal at best
* it prob depends on your taste
* i’ve never eaten at the Fernandina location
* one of my problems with MR is they use TOO much cheese. I like the way Nicky G’s makes their pizza
does Nicky G’s deliver to Riverside/Murray Hill? Anyone know?
Stopped at Nicky G’s last night after Art Walk – that is some pretty good pizza. Went with Russ and Marc, and split a classic medium Bronx Bomber. I should have just gone with the slice because the medium is huge! But it will definitely make for a great after-hours joint during the weekend when you get the munchies…
I had a slice at G’s last night for Art Walk. Definitely the best pizza around. Way better than Al’s or Moon River. We sat at the “Springfield Deuce” table.
Oh yeah, $1.50 domestic drafts. That could get out of hand quickly. Is that the standard price, or just happy hour?
I second the Moon River cheese problem. Their cheese is wierd.
Their salads kick ass though, and the staff is lovely, and they play the music they want to hear, which is really really nice.
But…
Process Organic was VERY interesting.
Lots to think about. Right up my alley. Great job, Matt/Katie and Artists.
I am eating a slice of Nicky G’s margarita pizza right now and it’s only OK, I’m sorry but nothing beats Moon River’s white pizza.
At the risk of causing more beef over pizza, I have to shout out Picasso’s Pizzeria out on San Jose. Yeah yeah it’s the suburbs and such, but the wonderful deliciousness redeems that sin.
I have to say that, based on only going there in the evening, it has never mattered who is cooking, Moon River is always dank. But, regardless, Nicky G’s will now be in the rotation over MR as it is in our urban neighborhood, and thus, as long as it’s good, regardless if better than MR, it will get supported over MR.
My last comment on pizza: Nicky G’s needs to lose the huge tables. Went there for lunch today and each large table had two people seated. Line out the door. More (smaller) tables with fewer chairs is the way to go.
Oh, and try their fried Ravioli. Sounds crazy, and I was skeptical, but it is good!
a bit of neighborhood pizza provincialism?
I have yet to try Nicky G’s…I suppose I should, it is just so dangerous, going into Springfield after dark.
Nicky G’s is awesome. I like their pizza WAY better than Moon River.
do they deliver to Riverside/Murray Hill??
Hey Skink, Nicky’s is not in Springfield, but down on Bay St. and if you’re afraid of coming to Springfield after dark then you’re a wuss!!! I’ll assume you are not a wuss and were joking..
Hey Lisa, just give Annemarie a call. There is a special friends and family delivery area. And it is SO worth it.
Kudos once again on the amazing festival!
Nicky G’s is definetely gotten better with service!! they deliver up to @ 10 miles away…unlesws it’s a catering order. Seems to be same faces there now, better service. I give food a 10. Definetely will go therre often, plus it’s close to where I work in Modis building
i think their service sucks and has not gotten better, the kids who work there are rude, and they treat the place more like a hang out 2 out of 3 times this week I have gotten the wrong order, and in deliveries they always forget one of my meals….I think they realisticly need to hire new people and give better service.
