I just got back from the Fall-tinted Asheville, NC. It’s a great city. Good food, lots of hippies. I took some photos, you know how I roll. Urban decay, street art, etc. Here’s Asheville how I saw it:
Not a lot of street art in Asheville. Lot’s of public “sanctioned” art and simple tagging. This guy (above) had a few pieces.
Most of the buildings like this (above) were being renovated and converted into living spaces. Asheville was pretty dense in terms of downtown development. Pretty much every building was packed with ground-floor retail.
Asheville seems more like a tourist/weekend town with most of the activity in the city center occuring at night or on the weekends. During the day it was pretty much dead, but they still manage to support a thriving downtown retail scene.
Think 5-Points style retail lining every city block in Downtown Jacksonville with offices and living spaces above the shops. Nice thought eh? Entire Asheville photoset
