Last Sunday after I left my church, a friend and I took a 10 minute walk to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to check out what we thought was the first Sunday of Advent.  Truth be told, we both wanted to see a Christmas-themed service.  Shortly after the service began, we found out that Advent starts next weekend, but we stayed for Mass nonetheless.  I had never seen the inside of the building and I was pleased at how well it was preserved.  After the service I met a few people who told me about a really cool upcoming church tour.

On Saturday, December 8, from 1-5 p.m., seven of downtown’s churches will be featured in Downtown Historic Church Tour 2007.  The guide at each church will highlight the architectural and historic significance of the building.  The route, which can be walked, begins and ends at the Main Library, where the Junior League’s Festival of Trees will be on display.

Tickets are 5 dollars per person and may be purchased at the Main Library on the day of the event or at Hemming Plaza during the December Art Walk.  Best part is, 20 per cent of all ticket sales will benefit the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition.
