Boomtown Theatre has re-located to the 9th & Main Espresso Cafe and is reviving its Thurs.-night "Pulp Fiction Theatre" series, where each week are enacted three playlets based on stories from the classic pulp-fiction era. It's often campy and always fun!

"PFT" auditions are upcoming. We need actors and actresses ranging from young- to mature-adult ages, for major and supporting speaking roles as well as "extra" roles with no dialogue.

Previous acting experience is helpful but not required. However, please keep these "caveats" in mind.

1. This will be an ongoing series, so be prepared to spend future Wed. nights on rehearsal and Thurs. nights on live performances.

2. Be ready for "anything goes"-type acting -- no nudity, but the plays' content ranges from mild double-entendres to explicit language and situations.

3. This is being offered as "community theater," a kind euphemism for "no salary." Should the series "take off," we might be able to pay some box-office take as recompense, but even that will be slim once divided among several actors. However, know that you won't be toiling anonymously -- several local publications have tentatively committed to upcoming pieces about the revived Boomtown. In any case, remember, we're doing it for the love of the acting and because we're jonesing for attention!

Auditions will be held on Wed., Jan. 16 and 23, at 7 p.m. at the 9th & Main Espresso Cafe, 1850 N. Main St. in downtown Springfield. You will audition from our scripts, but if you find it helpful, you may also bring a short piece of your own from which to read. Be prepared to give your contact phone number and E-mail address, as well as a head-shot photo if you have one.

If you'd like an idea of our format, check out the short "PFT" YouTube video at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFub8Qz-A4k

If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 246-0312. Otherwise, we'll see you at 9th & Main!

Sincerely,

Steve Bailey
Co-Writer/-Director, Pulp Fiction Theatre

yeah, were pretty vegetarian friendly, Adam. The trick is to ask what we have available. In addition to whatever is on the menu, I also have another list of things that we prepare for vegetarian menus ( along with just about every other diet restrictions or preferences )

Adam (not Beaugh), hopefully I'm not speaking for Stephen Dare, but I'll tell you that when my (vegetarian) brother-in-law visited, we went to the old Boomtown and Stephen came out to the table, talked to my bro-in-law about how strict a vegetarian or vegan he was, and prepared this really, really good sort of extemporaneous eggplant dish that met his diet perfectly. I'd guess they're vegetarian-friendly ...

Agreed with Russel. Faye Woods had really good food, and Stephen and James made it an awesome place to hit after the bars and clubs closed, albeit briefly. Late-nights spots like that would boost areas like the Square and Bay Street...at least for me, it would.

On a side note, does anyone know what happened to the little place that was open for a brief stint next to Jack Rabbits? Faye Woods, I think it was being called. Thought Stephen was running that too? ...Regardless, the food was fantastic there, the service and courtesy was very appreciated (especially late-late night), and if that's any indication of the new Boomtown, I can't wait to check it out!

unfortunately, we never went to original boomtown, except to see corrine brown when she screened "fahrenheit 9/11". Is the menu vegetarian (who eats fish) friendly?
