In case you’ve been living under a rock or haven’t been checking Urban Jacksonville’s sponsor area, THE TALKIES at San Marco Theatre is screening Night of the Living Dead in 35 mm this weekend. In addition, and most importantly, director George Romero will be providing live commentary throughout the screening on February 2, 2008.
My opinion of a good zombie walk is to loll your head as if it’s a little too heavy and the muscles have begun to atrophy - Romero has been quoted as saying.
Romero is an American director, writer, editor and actor. After graduating from Carnegie-Melon University, he and friends formed Image Ten Productions in the late 1960’s. They chipped in roughly $10,000 apiece to produce Night of the Living Dead, one of the most celebrated American horror films of all time.
Look at that face and tell me you wouldn’t want to hang with him for a night! Night of the Living Dead is playing February 1st at 11:55 p.m. and February 2nd at 9:30 p.m. Visit www.thetalkies.net for ticket information. A big thanks to THE TALKIES for always brangin’ it with awesome films and directors. This gets me so excited for the Jacksonville Film Festival!

Is that Morty, the motorized wheelchair agent from the Farrelly Bros movie “Stuck On You”? what a hustler.
I would have loved to have gone to the dinner with George after the show…tickets sold out quick!

The Talkies is something that makes me proud to be in Jacksonville… Everytime I tell my out of town friends about this they say “I wish we had something like that here”. I mentioned it to people in Seattle last year and they were dumbfounded. One of my friends is on the selection committee of the Florida Film Festival in Orlando and he is constantly floored by the movies we get to see for the midnight movies at Sn Marco. Unfortunately I don’t get to see them as much as I would like, due to my schedule…. But there is nothing like seeing these movies in the San Marco Theater. Thank you Tim….
also… what’s the deal with the movies on Sunday afternoon? there are always a ton of Indians there, is it Bollywood films? Tim, Is this something you run or is it by someone else outside of the theater bringing it in?
hiya,
well, thanks for the kind words. i wish the board of the festival knew that people on the selection committee at Florida Fest are floored by the programming here maybe then I wouldn’t have been laid off in december then offered a horrifying contract that i couldn’t accept. so i am moving on ARCADE CINEFEST is next folks. stay tuned.
oh and yeah….there is a large indian population in jax and they book movies here every weekend. they are rarely subtitled but who needs to read. they are a hoot to watch.
oh and i think i have convinced one of em to open and indian rest. in riverside. i love the japanese food but geez…a little diversity would be nice, no?
cheers!

uh….bollywood fims?!?! Are these open to the public?
Holy crap!
If there were both Bollywood films to see every weekend AND an indian restaurant in my neighborhood I would never even consider going back to Queens. That is disorientingly awesome, Tim.
bollywood sundayz are open to the public. they did cancel this sunday’s but there will be one the following weekend.
George is a true artist… Modern film owes him much!
