This is What You’re Doing This Weekend

First things first, First Fridays in Five Points is tonight! I haven’t heard about any major artwork being displayed or a movie being shown, but as usual, the stores will be open late. Plus, you can get some delicious food at one of the many restaurants in the area. Outside seating is delightful.
Heads up for a new store coming to Riverside. Nest Living is a design studio opening in 5 Points in March that will stock furniture, bedding, lighting, wallpaper, ceramics, media players, etc. The picture above shows the type of furniture the store will sell. Some of the furniture will be on display tonight at First Fridays. Check it out while you’re making your way around town.
Saturday is the More Than Wallpaper show at Bogda. The poster really says it all, but it’s from 8-11 p.m. at 1253 McDuff Ave. S. Maybe Jacksonville’s called-upon ‘art critic’ will make an appearance. We’ll see.
Lastly, if you don’t have a hot lunch date Saturday, you should probably head over to the Springfield Community Garden (located on Main Street between 1st and 2nd) for clean up day. Bring gloves, water, snacks, trash bags and/or hand tools. Hey, bring your date, too! It starts at noon.
See you guys out and about.

Unfortunately, no First Friday Five Buck Flick in 5 Points this weekend.
Anyone have any more info on clean up day? I cannot really plant or do garden work (will have baby in tow if i make it), but picking up trash would be cool.
There’s plenty of trash to clean up, but I don’t think it’s wise to have vulnerable youngsters on the site at the moment. Babes in backpacks are welcome, but there’s almost an entire ground up car scattered around! Regardless, if you haven’t seen the garden yet you should stop by just for that. I will probably be working on some less labor-intensive projects this weekend as well (writing a grant, building a small cold frame, and starting some seeds). The muralists may be adding to their artwork, also.
Thanks for mentioning it Joey!
Word is Food Not Bombs will be feeding folks in the garden sometime Sunday. Perhaps Donny Q. will post the time for that.
Whoops. I mean, thanks for mentioning it Adrienne! I would also like to second the notion of garden time being an awesome date activity. If he’s not willing to get his hands dirty he’s probably not awesome enough for ya.
Thanks for mentioning FNB this Sunday. We will begin serving food in the community garden at 2pm. If anyone wants to help out, please contact me at info@jaxmds.org.
Thanks Jennifer! I was hoping to maybe put my son in his stroller and clean up garbage in the vicinity of the garden– wasn’t sure if the post meant garbage clean-up only in the garden, or in the general neighborhood area. Hopefully I can make it by.
I havent been to first friday yet. Need to check it out. The show at bogda looks cool too. See ya out there folks!
I have to admit, it sorta bothers me that Five Points uses “First Friday” We have been First Friday bashs in Springfield for a couple of years now and they are a lot of fun.
Now granted, 5-points is somewhat different with the movies and such, but why pick the same name and time?
We chose First Fridays for the alliterative aspect: First Fridays in Five Points and the Five buck Flick.
Also, even as 3 year residents, we had never heard of the First Fridays parties– granted because of work/school situation we aren’t as involved in the neighborhood as we would like to be, but nonetheless that’s how it goes. We aren’t trying to kill anyone’s party or anything, it just worked for us.
that new store sounds hot! anymore info on it?
Public radio listeners might want to check out “Micheal Feldman’s Whad’Ya Know” tommorrow morning, 10:30, at the Florida Theatre.
Public radio is the shizz. If you share my addiction you might like my favorite “This American Life” featuring Jax in a starring role…

Thats cool Adam. Just me being sensitive. I have nothing but love for Riverside. Hell, I spend almost all of my money there! Im just protective of the ‘field. :-)
no harm, at all DTP. I saw you were the only one giving love to us after Stephen Dare’s metrojax comment on fuel being closed.
Well, I didnt say much except that I didnt think Fuel was closed.
I actually like where 5 points is going. Riverside is a beautiful neighborhood, and I think having food and shopping options right there is good for downtown and springfield as well. Rather than going to Regency or Avenues, I can keep my money fairly close to my house. 4 miles for groceries is not outrageous. I would prefer 4 blocks, but that will come in time.
