The city is having a St. Johns River Celebration/ Cleanup on Saturday, March 15. Why not help our poor waterways and empower yourself to do something, since the city won’t. There are many different clean up sites all around the city.

I used to work in FCCJ’s main street building overlooking what we called “poo creek” and would always see such amazing things in the park. I would take breaks from the computer screen and look out the windowns. Down there I would see the shopping cart (at low tide?) it would be visible, but look like a decaying sputnik. On rare occasions we could watch the fools crazy enough to fish out of the creek or hey, on the really special days see the prostitutes at work!

Unfortunately (or maybe not), I have learned that the city is generally not the most responsive to issues such as this or for that matter crime issues either. With the supposed reduction in revenue expected from the property tax amendment, things will undoubtable get worse. When we all see shit like this, the best way to fix it is to do it ourselves. I routinely walk the alley behind my house and pick up the trash, etc. When I see old tires in the bushes, I put them by the curb and call the City to schedule a pickup. Everyone on these blogs have great ideas, but they need to be turned into action. Waiting around for our current administration to do anything is a wasted cause. IMHO.

The number for questions, complaints, or to report a problem is 630-CITY. Unfortunately, the City doesn’t have anyone or a department that is responsible for removing trash from our waterways.
