Kelly,
The AIGA mentoring program is open to any high school student who is interested in art and design from any high school in Jacksonville--it wasn't exclusive to the Frank H. Peterson teens (there was actually 1 student from Jackson). This is the first time we've done anything like this and we "marketed" it through the public libraries' teen departments. We didn't get a huge response from doing this and when it was getting down to the wire and we still didn't have kids I happened to meet a teacher at Frank H. Peterson at one of our AIGA events in December and said his kids would love to do something like this so it kind of just worked out that way.

Because this "pilot" program was so successful we will be starting another one in the Fall for a different project. We would LOVE to have kids from every high school in the city and hope that by doing this show at Opaq we were able to get the word out about it and get people interested in it. We are VERY open to suggestions to improve on the program. If you would like to talk more about this you can e-mail me at karenk at thekurtisgroup dot com. (sorry don't want to get spammed)

Karen has a good point. Its not to often we get a show like the one were having over at The Burrito Gallery. The Cicuit show and the poster showing at Opaq are must sees. Should be really cool.

If you are thinking about skipping out on art walk this month don't do it. The "Circuits" show upstairs at the Burrito Gallery is a MUST-SEE event. Things like this don't come to Jacksonville that often and Doug Grimmett of Primal Screen in Atlanta has worked insanely hard on putting together a show of the most talented digital artists around the country. Apple has sponsored it and you will be sorry if you miss it. DO NOT MISS THIS!!!! P.S. Stop by at Opaq to see the posters too! :)

Thanks for posting up about The Art Center. We all worked real hard to make this huge mosaic piece for the Art Walk this month. You really gotta see it. Its easy to pick out the one I did. I like the scary things.
