Heritage Days in Springfield. Cool Festival but the Name Needs More Work

I know I’ll catch some flack for that headline, but seriously! Heritage Days conjures visions of old people sitting around in straw hats reminiscing about the days before the Internet.
I’m glad that’s out of my system, because there are some cool events going on in Springfield on 4th of July weekend.
Throwback Baseball Game and Fireworks!
Friday, July 4th in Klutho Park
Starting at 4pm, the Eastside will battle the Westside playing in authentic, antique baseball uniforms and equipment. After the game there will be a DJ and the 1st Friday block party which will be held along Boulevard from 2nd to 3th, and in the park. Then everyone will make their way back to Klutho Park for Downtown Fireworks!
Metro Jacksonville’s coverage of last years game
East-West Kickball and Springfield Acoustic Music Festival
Saturday, July 5th at 11:30am
The kickball game starts at 11:30 followed with food and drink vendors in abundance. Springfield’s own Shantytown Pub will be there providing beer and wine. After the game Springfield’s first ever acoustic music festival will kick off with 7 local artists.

- Local painters, photographers, sculptures, jewelry makers

I can’t WAIT for the festival! I love music festivals. I agree with you totally about that name conjuring up old folks withering away on their front porches. Hope they change it one day.
Heritage days conjures up pictures of old men playing with confederate flags.
Also, I know it’s a holiday when everyone has off, and that makes it an ideal time for the game(s), but 4th of July strikes me as a terrible time to have these games. We live in Florida– 4th of July is a classic beach day, and one which my family has always spent going to the beach, all day. So, from my view, all these events would be much better appreciated, and attended, on another day.
Just sayin’.
I agree about the name. Any suggestions for a new name?
How about “The Springfield Classic”? I know that speaks just to the game, and not the surrounding festivities, but, for the game at least, I think it gets to what is being sought.
Or just Springfield Festival…? That way it can encompass everything. From tours of houses to tattooing in the park.
Springfield Festival works. It informs you on the location and type of event.
east west all star independence day
I think they should re name it…
Summertime in The City…
hahahaha.
