Springfield Walgreens Now Open (24 hours!)
07/17/08 • Posted in: Retail, Springfield by Joey Marchy 7 Comments »It took three years, but Karen Mathis’ predictions for Springfield retail relief have finally arrived in the form of a new Walgreens store at 8th and Davis. Seen here as just an empty lot, the Walgreens will be a welcome addition to the the neighborhood. I could see that placing being mobbed by snack starved Shandsies. What a great place, in walking distance, to get basics.
One thing Karen Mathis didn’t see coming was the Downtown Winn Dixie renovations, which I also see as part of the Springfield retail mix. Personally the Walgreens won’t be as game-changing as it would have been had it arrived before the Winn Dixie upgrades. The Winn Dixie experience has improved so much that being halfway between the new Walgreens and the Winn Dixie will result in a case-by-case decision on when to go to either.

Check.
Point Walgreens.
Walgreens draws first blood.
So far no word on opening day festivities.

do you know if this is a 24 hour store? i couldn’t find the store on the walgreens’ website. hopefully this will replace the riverside walgreens as my middle-of-the-night kid tylenol emergency destination.
your title just answered my question! so, hooray!
Ah, but is it really Springfield? SPAR freaks out every time the news refers to crime in the Shands-zone as being in Springfield.
It’s nice to have, I guess. It’ll be interesting to see how it maintains in a few months but I just don’t think I’ll be visiting it unless I’m in dire need of something at 2am. I’d like to say that expressway visitors will offset the exciting bunch that tends to hang out around that area but I have my doubts.
I hate Karen Mathis.
Old wrinkled up fart needs a damn makeover.
travis…you are correct. it is not officially SPR. and actually, since the freakouts, i have noticed the media getting better with their geography.
i’m not a huge pharmacy-go’er, but wow it sure beats the weird ABC store with the bullet proof barrier and shouting to the clerks, “What?!? You have any imports? What?!? Heineken?!?” [sweet baby jesus in a carry on bag is he serious?] “….gosh…ok…yah, i guess i’ll take a six pack of Heineken” [projectile puking].
Yeah, that area is officially “Sugar Hill”. Oh Rotten, you get more rotten every day.
