Yeah! It’s good to be back, and there’s no better day to return than your birthday. Yes, today is my birthday. No gifts please, just swing by Mark’s tonight to see me and Biggie Tea. I promise, no birthday songs. I will be playing an all Funk set, thanks to Ian Ranne who inspired me to search out some old school funk.

There was a blog birthday while I was out. Congrats Urban Core on 3 years of Mark’s and Art Walk posts.

I’m going to ease back into this bloggin thang by announcing a sweet-ass Obama fundraiser I’m involved with. If you saw Obama speak at the DNC last week then you’re probably pretty excited about the presidential race right now.

Harness that energy by attending Return of the City a fundraiser, art show, DJ party with food and drink. It’s only $100.00 per person and all money goes directly to the Barack Obama campaign.

This party will feature the art of Steve Forster and live DJs Biggie Tea, Owen Holmes of The Black Kids and yours truly, DJ Joe E Fresh. The party is at a house in Avondale on September 16th, 2008 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Eat, Drink, Change. The hosts of this art opening and fundraiser hope to celebrate the excellent quality of life in our progressive, diverse, walkable, and beautiful urban neighborhoods. We encourage you to patronize the taverns and eateries of the Shoppes of Avondale before and after the opening. Hosted by John Mills & Tony Allegretti at 1852 Talbot Avenue in the Heart of Avondale.

If you can’t make it to the fundraiser there will be an after party at Mark’s starting around 9:30. Biggie Tea and I will be DJing at the after party too.

Thanks dog. I live in riverdale! and just to stay cutting edge this party aint far from where people get shot. Wait that would mean all of Duval is urban. Its all about hopy anyhow. And soon we are going to have raffle prizes. Researching how that will work now. THX

Glad I cleared up my own mis-perception. Also, I criticized Avondale because i thought the use of the term "urban core" was some Avondale guy throwing around a term that you personally have given a lot of meaning to-- ratherthan you bringing your urban core cool to avondale. Nothing but love for you,man.

Only a few people have RSVP from the web. But I meet people every day and talk about it and they are the ones coming. And what's funny is a lot of folks are afam.I tell every black person I see about it.I can't help myself. I tell all people but there is is pretty compelling evidence h So its party at whiteys. May get crazy!

I wasn't impugning your event at all, I hope it was not taken that way. I would love to give $100 to the campaign if I could afford it. As a donation, yes, it is small, I just didn't look at it that way. I was looking at it like $100 cover charge to a party. Hell, any other time you make a donation, you don't get a free party with it, so I guess I took the wrong perspective. Seriously, I wasn't trying to talk shit about your party, or the campaign, or anything. I hope it goes well for you, and, if I had $100 to spare, I'd definitely go.

â€¢ A proposal authored by the Parking Facilities & Enforcement Division that would amend the Cityâ€™s parking meter ordinance is moving around the City Council offices looking for a sponsor. Some of the suggested changes include enforcing the charge for parking at a metered space at night and on weekends, eliminating the legality of â€œfeeding the meterâ€ to park at a space up to three hours and reinstating the 4-block prohibition for continued parking.

It is an urban neighborhood because its in the core.

Its bike-able and arguably walkable to downtown.

Maybe, if you classify urban by skin color. Even then there are quite a few umm whiter parts of town I think. Anyway, its $100 donation direct to the campaign all of the party is donated and volunteered. If you were going to give to Obama think of this as a bonus to your donation. See you there.

And "The Shoppes of Avondale" being labeled as an urban neighborhood? Hardly. Walkable, and inviting with the aspects of urban life we wish dowtown had, yes. Urban? Not so much. I am not sure you can label the whitest area of town urban.
