downtown jacksonville

I have found that being a “community organizer” puts a lot of strain on your life. Your personal life, your family life, your work life and everyone one connected to you. I have a lot of respect for people we can continually work to improve the city in the face of all that strain. I will continue to work and make this city a better place, but I’ll probably take a few months off before planning another huge event like Partisan. So many thanks to all the people who helped with the show and came out in support.

On to the news

Tuesday October 7th will be the last night of Biggie Tuesday DJing at Mark’s. Me, Biggie and DJ Cries Thunder (Nick Strate of Ricotta Park) will be DJing for a Financial Bailout edition. I have a few giveaways and I’m sure Biggie and Nick will wrangle up some special items too.

Georgia Reed, of SAMBA and Suntrust Mortgage, will be the main speaker for this month’s Springfield Area Merchants & Business Association general meeting. This meeting will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The meeting will be held at Three Layers Coffeehouse. Three Layers is located on the corner of East 6th and Walnut Streets. For more information, please call 219-7499 or e-mail Ennis Davis at urbansouth@hotmail.com.

All of the trees in front of the Shipyard property on Bay Street across from the Maxwell House Plant were cut down on Wednesday because they posed a hazard to pedestrians and the city arborist concluded they could not be replanted, said City Spokesperson Kristen Beach. New trees will be planted once the development of the property is finished via Daily Record
