Live Blogging the End: Top 5 Reasons Palin is the Jacksonville Landing
10/07/08 • Posted in: Activism, Downtown Jacksonville, Politics by Von Tiny Paige 30 Comments »Note from the Editor: Under no amount of torture, threat of litigation or tickling will I reveal the identity of Von Tiny Paige, because I have no idea who he/she is. Please enjoy.
Today Alaska Governor Sarah Pitbull with tattooed lipstick Palin will drop her obsession with running her state (the biggest and closest to Russia) and her huge family obligations (make sure you mark your breast pump in that fridge!) to come to our fair and still red city to attack the next President of the United States. But there are significant things that the you betcha Gov and the you wretcha Landing have in common. Here are the top 5:
5. Meaningless babble on top of Hooters. How did that giant screen television pass through the planning department, planning commission, Design Review Committee, and city council? Its on city property, where you can drink out of doors, liquor even, BTW. It is a giant television on the most beautiful part of the river and arguably the best looking part of the city especially from the southbank. You can see it from the historic Main Street Bridge to nowhere.
Do we need television while enjoying downtown on the river? Maybe you are saying, how did the pepsi ball and all the pepsi billboard-roofs along the stadium pass the above groups also? Who knows? No journalists care! Or work in a building with their logo on all four sides (big no no), with big banners hanging (Von supports the fight against breast cancer and blight)! I’m just a columnist and Joey doesn’t pay crap. Back to the television. It is like what is behind the titanium glasses. It is mean and meaningless, it is a dirty distraction, it is self serving, it is empty, and it is on top of nice hooters. Which are draped in an American flag today. How appropriate.
4. Both are run by people who prop them up but don’t really care about them. And they make things up at tax payer expense. How in the world did the owner of the Landing not clean it up and finish the job? Parking of course! Somehow there is a way to shove thousands today and tens of thousands at football games in there with a lack of parking but not actual stores. They need spaces!
At any given time there are more spaces downtown than there are people. Their lot is always open with spaces available. The year after the owner of the Landing bought it for $5 million his firm made $700 million. But parking is the reason he cannot invest in it. Palin is thrown out there with no magazines, no foreign policy experience, no passport? And why can’t she answer questions about one supreme court case? Parking, err gotcha journalism.
3. They both look great from a distance. The Landing always looks good from a blimp. And until Gov Palin speaks she is damn fine. But once you approach the Landing you will find nothing but a stank beer smell, infested restaurants, and unsavory customers. The good Gov who has a great handle on politics in her state, where she should be governing, like now, associates herself with a vicious dog that attacks without provocation. That is as repulsive as the dumpster smell or burnt skin.
2. Empty. The Landing has never been as empty as it is today. Gov Palin has nothing to offer with the exception of some drill me now bullshit. She is an angry zealot divider without anything tangible on her record or her party platform. She is talking about activist courts, but can’t name one case. Echo. Echo. She started her Landing speech about never looking back and always looking forward, ends with Bill Ayers. Ha ha. No looking back huh?
1. Both get paid to sit there. Governor Palin gets a per diem for staying home. Some for her kids too. You can’t see it on her tax records but it exists. And its on the back of Alaskans and Americans. She needs to reject that. Everyday that a parking lot is not build by our city for the Landing they actually get paid.
When this thing is over Von promises to get back to more localized scandal but there is too much fertile soil right now on the national front to not plant and sew. I’ll try to tie it into our Jacksonville. There are some amazing strories from resources coming in from inside City Hall about the no bid dump scandal and the Jackson Square scandal. We don’t want to get anyone fired so Von is being judicious. As always tips will remain anonymous vontinypaige@gmail.com

I’m sure you are aware of the Sheriff of Lee county Fla who, in uniform, talked of Barak Hussein Obama.
Here is the ph # 239 477 1000. I have called and was told there is no law prohibiting the Sheriff’s conduct. I was also told it was my interpretation of his remark and that most people didn’t feel that way. Really?
Please make lots of calls to this office. Post the # on your website. They need to be taught a lesson.
What a waste of time. Reading that, after hearing everyone else who is my age (mid to late 20’s) argue in mostly blind support of Obama, really makes me think that young people in this town, and especially the ‘cool kids’, are nothing more than a bunch of bandwagon democrats. It’s like so many out there just chose to be behind Barrack simply because he isn’t a republican and maybe because his skin color represents a long overdue change. Then, instead of trying to sway people to vote in the same way by convincing them that he’s the best candidate, all I ever hear from the supporters of Obama are jeers toward the other party. It’s like, if you’re young then the cool thing to do is vote for Obama. Maybe it’s also the right thing to do but shouldn’t we all make our decisions based on facts? I really don’t know which side I’m going to end up voting for but while I’m currently leaning toward Obama, all of his supporters are really turning me off. Maybe I should just sit it out.
ddemos- good stuff. I had to look that up. Out of context and without its tinge, its some good advice that may be appropriate for ‘indifferent’:
When Scott took the stage, he declared the world had three types of people, “the ones who make things happen, the ones who watch what happens and the ones who wonder what happened. Let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened.”
When in doubt- sit it out. If you are really in your twenties or over twenty one anyway, you should come to marks tonight where we will drown out the candidates even. Not just the ‘cool kids’. They never show for biggie tues anyway.
One thing I disagree with Von on is that the city is responsible for paying for that parking requirement not the Landing for taking it. There is probably more I disagree about but I dont think its the Landing’s fault they make money off a crappy agreement from 1980something.
Plus any city forward event, jazz in june, take me to the river, art walk, etc. where I have asked for the Landing for help, they have always been cool and helpful. Just saying (not that one).
@indifferent Please don’t sit out the election. That’s the worst thing you can do. Sure there are lots of people blindly voting for Obama, but there are also lots of people blindly voting for McCain.
In the end, you must research and make your own decisions. I know I do.
PS, thanks or thinking I’m cool!
PPS I hear there is a debate on tonight. You should watch and maybe that will inspire you to back one side or the other. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10060044-38.html
indifferent has no intention of sitting out. he has made up his mind and is now concern trolling.
his vacous mischaracterization of obama supporters is evidence enough.
how is that statement even plausible, “the ‘cool kids’, are nothing more than a bunch of bandwagon democrats.” how do you determine a cool kid? cool kids to some can be a jock nerd or a band geek and say someone voting democrat is a cool kid by your classification, then they get labeled for voting for what he/she believes in? is that to make them feel bad? anyways who labels people these days? as for me i don’t care if i’m cool or not i’m voting for obama cause the republicans in the white house destroyed the economy, they don’t know how to fix it, and i want out of the war. i think gay people are born gay and there is no reason i need to tell them that it’s wrong or keep them from visiting their loved ones. i don’t think the republicans now are saying anything different from the old ones. i can tell you tons of reasons why i’m now a democrat. i don’t think the cool thing to do is to vote for obama, i think if you’re sane and want this world to get any better you vote for anyone but mccain and palin. obama’s beliefs make a lot of sense to me.
Joey, I’m pretty sure indifferent used the single quote ‘ ‘ around ‘cool kids’ to indicate the irony that you actually think you are cool. What actually happens is that all of the not so cool kids get together and with all of their counter culture “I’m tired of being ugly, so I’ll wear black and smoke pot and vote democrat so maybe one day the government will support me” attitudes and think they are ‘cool’. But whatever.
indifferent - i’m sorry you feel like there are just a bunch of people jumping on the obamawagon, however there are plenty of young people on both sides that are very passionate about their candidate! i know all the republicans mock this, but if obama’s passion alone is enough to bring someone on board then so be it. atleast the younger set is taking interest. now all we can hope for is that they all turnout to vote!
have you had a discussion with any of this bandwagon voters? i’ll bet you’d be surprised at how much people know! for me, i’m often hesitant to get into a heated political discussion if someone is just going to automatically block out what i’m saying anyway.
I have no doubt that Obama wants to help our country…just like Joel Osteen wants to help people. People like Joel Osteen because they believe he is a great communicator, as they do Obama. People like the way Joel Osteen thinks, as they do Obama. They’ve even bought their books. But it takes more than a desire to help people, more than an ability to communicate.
Obama is a senator and Osteen is a preacher…both are required to be excellent communicators, not decision makers. I fear that Obama, while having the heart, does not have the experience needed to run a country (which is significantly larger than a community in which you might be active).
McCain might be rather boring in communication…but we’ve all had the really boring professor that chose education over people pleasing. McCain might be older and appears out of touch with society…but why have people continued to vote for him over the last 30 or so years, cuz surely if he wasn’t good at his job someone would’ve fired him by now.
Actors have always been good at playing a role really well, but we would never trust a TV Mom with our kids. And if we wouldn’t allow an 8 year old to teach first grade, why would we allow a 2 term senator to run the USA. It is fine that Obama is passionate, but does he have the experience needed? I just don’t think it is a good idea.
On the other hand, if Obama does win, he and the rest of the democrats will be blamed for an economy that will not be fixed in one presidential term…it is the nature of the beast and we’ll have to hope that he can deal with it…he did have two terms in Congress.
indifferent, i really have seen no factual basis for your claims. Thinking to all my friends, i’m pretty sure that every one of them will be voting for obama on the 4th, but that is fairly common among the mid-20s set. While it may seem like uninformed, trendy decision making, i can tell you that many people i know are very informed about the issues. maybe the fact that they’ve all come to the same conclusion just means that they are right.
So once again VTP attacks the right and ignores the real problems where our vote actually counts.
Corrine Brown and Ander Crenshaw both voted FOR the bail out bill. In senate Martinez vote for the bail out as well. Instead of covering an election that results in the same end (a low approval president being replaced by a senator from a even lower approval rated congress). Why not cover what will affect local citizens?
Instead VTP has become a Democrat attack dog.
Good work VTP way to abandon the very people that need real change not some amateur bulls*%t marketing campaign by Obama.
Well said Rampant.
Rampant,
“Democrat attack dog” is far too kind for VTP. Political attack dogs usually attack on actual issues. I have yet to see VTP actually post anything of any value to anyone.
urbanjacksonville should be ashamed for aiding such a worthless waste of resources.
VTP,
I’m sure by your own left wing wacko thinking there are people starving in some third world country who would no doubt benefit from the food, air, water you’re wasting by your mere existence on this planet.
SHUT IT DOWN!
My friends.
Gosh darn it. Can I call you Joe?
I’m sure Joey hates to put this tripe up but you know, the American people are hurting. And we can’t look back. We need to look past all of this “value”. Von is not a dollar store. I’m sure Joey will come to his senses. But until then you will have to waste time commenting on what a waste of time the Von is. Makes us both look smrt. IRONY.
Oh and Joey, The burnt skin link was supposed to go here..
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5813754&page=1
The Von does agree about Corrine and Crenshaw. I’ve done up Brown when her roof cave in and biological spillz all up her back. And Crenshaw is about to get his. Have you seen his sponsored legislation? No?
Two in seven years. Neither passed and one was a TEBOW bill!
SEVEN YEARS ALAN!
Sorry to run off all your fans Joey. Post at your leisure.
I’m incredibly disappointed once again with this site. The issue of today is to be open minded and respectful of others opinions. This is not the forum to spew anti-party propaganda. VTP, shame on you for posting such a load of hate-filled garbage and passing it off as a respectable blog.
I’m 26 and will be voting for McCain this fall and must admit that it is not a popular choice among my peers. Sadly, most haven’t got a pulse on this election. I agree that there are a fair amount of people my age (mid 20’s) who are jumping on the Obama-bandwagon. However, I will not discredit those of you who have been responsible and informed yourselves before choosing Obama as the candidate you will back. I admire those who, at an early age, have taken an interest in the politics that influence the future laying before us. It benefits all of us to stake claim in the issues that are important to us and to support those who stand up for what we value. There’s no right or wrong here, so why spin it that way.
Tom P. - I believe you’re confusing the values of a conservative with the label Republican. Much like how liberals are tied to the Democratic party. However, neither conservative nor liberal is exclusive of a party. It is ignorant of you to believe that they are one in the same or that all Republicans/Democrats should be shoe-boxed into a stereotype that way.
Indifferent – please do not sit out the election. Make your vote count regardless of the party. Remember that even though we have Dems and Reps as heavy weights on this ballot, there are other parties (i.e. Green Party, Libertarian Party, etc.) Check them out and see if you find a fit.
VTP:
(In response to “Bewildered”) This person is so wrong, it would be funny if it weren’t so scary and sad. I merely disagreed with McGrandpa up to and until he chose Palin as a running mate. She is so clearly unqualified, in her judgment, in her intelligence, her radical views, and her apparent win-at-any-cost mentality (see: hate filled speeches of late). Choosing her said one thing: fuck the actual responsibilities of being VP and potentially president,I’m choosing someone the fringe (who hates me) will love– someone who actually believes dinosaurs and man lived at the same time; someone who wants women to pay for rape exams out of their own pockets; someone who champions abstinence education while her own teenage daughter gets knocked up. Anyone who is willing to engage in intellectual honesty cannot argue that this woman is any way capable of running our country, as VP or pres.
As such, slam her all you want. The sheep are apparently unable, or unwilling, to admit the cold, hard facts: this woman would be even worse for our country than W. has been.
SHUT up Adam. Hater. Country first. Humor last. I’m so disapointed in all of you.
adam(not Beaugh), speaking of Palin’s being unqualified. What were Obama’s qualifications, oh yea that’s right zip, nada, zero, nothing; oh wait he was in state senate, and served a couple of years in the lowest approval rated congresses of all time. Wow when it comes to qualifications Palin makes Obama bin Biden look like he’s the leader of the Mickey Mouse club. I dislike both of them but anyone with intellectual honesty can clearly see that executive service trumps legislative when running for an executive job.
The sheep are apparently unable or unwilling, to admit the cold, hard facts: this woman would be even worse for our country than W. has been; luckily she is running as VP not President. Obama bin Biden has already clearly shown he is as bad if not worse than W. with his support for the Bail out, his inability in foreign affairs (see his 3 distinctly different statements on Georgia as Russia invaded, see his comments on sitting down directly with Iran with no preconditions, see his statement about violating the sovereignty of Pakistan..etc). Neither Obama bin Biden nor does McCain have a clear economic vision at all. Both talk about tax cuts they will give and how the other doesn’t when in reality they both are almost equal on tax cuts. Difference though Obama is still talking about spending hundreds of billions more of money that the federal government does not have.
Vote McCain or Obama bin Biden if you want to run this country into the ground. Vote Libertarian if you want to bring real change with something called The Constitution of the United States.
ah yes. racism is always the last bastion of the ignorant.
honestly, Palen’s inexperience wouldn’t be so worrisome is she had any policy views at all. she chirps on about talking points, but any question regarding detail completely throws her off. this is why she has refused to have a press conference and why no follow up questions were allowed during the debate.
Obama has four years as a US senator, experience in the state senate, and policy ideas and details. he is extremely knowledgeable on any topic from domestic to foreign policy. palen can read from a teleprompter, read notecards, and wink.
If you don’t like this column, don’t read it. There is a big-ass warning at the top of each VTP post.
I do, however, appreciate your positive and/or negative feedback on this column. I respect everyone’s opinions and I love all my readers. Even the ones who think I am crazy and ruining the respectability of this fine establishment.
@VTP I fixed that link.
Thanks Joe. Can I call you Joe? @rampart I like your verve. I like that you are a real person who reads. The von is firmly in the obama camp. But they aren’t as funny or relative to our own republican local leadership. Write a good one and maybe Joe will post it. But you have to grease the wheels for Joey. And I like that we both are watching our leadership local. The von will try to be less bitter and be more local. But you have to stop with the bin anything because it suggests something about you that I hope isn’t true. That you are a bigot.
Ok apparently I need to inform the ignorant of what “bin” means. Bin is the Semitic word for “son”, often used in names meaning, “son of.” FYI Barack is a Semitic word that translates to “blessed”; Hussein is from the Semitic word hasan which translates to “handsome” or “good.”
So now for the ignorant and race baiters that seem to be everywhere these days. Obama bin Biden would translate Obama son of Biden, meaning Obama is nothing more than a puppet that will be controlled by the likes of Biden due to inexperience and lack of basic understanding in geo-politics. The very same Biden that said he would gladly serve on a McCain ticket. Refers to McCain as a friend and trashed Obama on every chance he could when not on the same ticket and a few times even while on the same ticket. Apparently the Obama bin Biden was too cerebral for some.
Apparently Adam you missed the part where Obama is running against McCain not “Palen.” The fact still remains that “Palen” still has more executive experience than Obama, which is an undisputable fact.
I’m also wondering if this is the first election you have followed because your arguments are so incredibly flimsy that I’m not sure you would be able to comprehend an adequate response if I decided to give one. You do understand the difference between President and VP and the difference in roles while campaigning do you not? (That was rhetorical)
To VTP, I wouldn’t have you any other way than in the Obama camp. I’m the cheese to your macaroni, the Ricky to your Lucy, the Peanut butter to your, you get the idea. Your posts are nothing more than ad hominem and should be met with some form of dissent or balance. As for a post, I think about it but most likely turn it down. This country as much as I would like to spread the word of Liberty and Individual freedom that this country was founded on and deserves to the people of UJ, it would only fall on the deaf ears of those that seek “free money” and the want of government being in their daily lives. Soon enough citizens will realize that government is not the answer and that they themselves are the answer, and on that day all free men and women will rejoice in that oppression by government will be a thing of the past and our Constitution will be restored.
Your arch-rival,
Rampant bin Liberty al-Duval
sure sure. and when the Republican party uses Obama’s full name, they are just being accurate, right?
as i said in my post, obama has fully fleshed out ideas and policy stances. that is what matters to me. mccain admits he doesn’t understand the economy. his mortage buy-up plan would funnel and extra $100 million to banks without providing relief to home owners.
so say that palen has executive experience would be to suggest that mayor peyton is qualified to be president. and that is what we should look for in a VP. ability to be president.
and just so you’re aware, i’ve voted in every election since 2000, when i made the mistake of voting for nader.
Oh right. Son of Biden. You betcha.
Von bin Hussein del la duval
County first
When the Repubs use his full name its no more fear-mongering than when Democrats say Republicans will take away old peoples social security. Both Repubs and Dems practice fear mongering and bigotry. Both parties have in this campaign both will in the future it’s part of their political nature of distraction.
I 100% disagree that Obama has fully fleshed out ideas and policy stances. He has partials and some of those partials are BAD ideas. If Obama ever said he said he understood the economy, I would then quickly show you a liar. If I’m not mistaken he majored in law not economics.
Peyton does have executive experience where Obama has none. However, Peyton obviously doesn’t have the approval ratings that “Palen” or even Palin has. Nor has Peyton had experience at a state executive level that “Palen” and Palin has had. Neither has Obama. Once again, “Palen” and Palin are not running for President, Obama is. Nor have i said that experience or qualifications means that “Palen” and Palin would make a better President, or VP. Personally I don’t care for her, but like I said Obama has NO executive experience and he’s the one running for President.
Secondly I didn’t mention anything about voting in elections. I said follow, voting does not require that you follow politics or elections.
sorry about the typo on palin’s name. i stand by the rest of my statements.
ahhh Libertarians…the “cool” conservatives.
How comfortable it must be to sit on the sidelines during this historical crisis… smuggly assured of your abilty to say “See, I told you so” no matter who is elected.
This leaves plenty of time to formulate incredibly clever wordplay…but I have to ask..is “Bin Biden” funny, insightful, or persausive if you find it neccesary to explain?
Politics (and government) is a dirty difficult business..so I try to reserve my cynicism and venom for individuals.
A cynic might ask…How is it that so many republican talking points work into the shell of Rampant’s “libertarian” perspective?
Is it possible that while making the exact arguments of the right wing echo chamber a person might cultivate the manner of a “concerned” citizen, a learned cynical idealist who just wishes to inform the discourse, in order to insinuate discredited talking points into the disscussion?
it matters little…
We are gonna crush.
GOTV !!
Skink, of course you would accuse me of using Repub talking points, just as I’m accused of using Dem talking points on Conservative blogs. There is more out there than left and right.
In regards to the explanation, I assumed those discussing politics would have general knowledge about Middle East and Muslim culture. Apparently I assumed wrong. I also don’t expect to win over any fans nor do I expect to change closed minds regardless if they are Dem or Repub. Simply to push the idea that real change is available for those who are actually serious about saving America and not what the cool hip marketing campaign brainwashes you into thinking what change is. (Refers to both Obama and McCain)
Also you’re correct “it matters little,” as the lemmings will rule the day. However, that little that you speak of over time will eventually grow and eventually an American Awakening will occur. Till then, enjoy your oppression.
Side note: As an artist and individual formally in he advertising business, I always find it quite humorous that the very individuals that say advertising and marketing does not persuade them have been found wanting.
well looky here: http://www.jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/101008/opl_342153195.shtml
Ron Littlepage finally wrote a good article!
“Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing,” Palin said, “any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.”
Umm, drill baby drill? What was the questions?
I’m thinking it might be cracker jacks to get her in office. If the Anchorage Daily News can get her to lie this will be richer than rich. A vote for McCain is a vote for at least 4 more years of VTP.
