Having been in the Main St Pawn shops several times, I have to say, the Gold and Coin was always the one that was easiest to work with, and seemed to be a notch above the rest.

Yes, we own the pawnshop that has relocated to Arlington Plaza. We relocated because of the ongoing construction. I understand that there is a misconception about pawnshops, and the media does not help by representing us as “a legal fence for stolen goods”. We actually have a very nice, clean store and welcome anyone to come and take a look before judging us.

My family has owned a pawnshop for over 25 years and it angers me to read negative comments about something that you obviously know nothing about. Let me enlighten you. All items pawned or sold to a pawnshop must be written up with state issued, picture id, all information, including description, serial number, model number, etc is downloaded to jacksonville sheriffs department nightly. Less than 1% of the items that we take in yearly comes up stolen. Now, if you just broken into someones car, would you provide id, thumprint and signature, knowing that is it reported to the police department?

Where you are all wrong is a Pawn Shop can actually help you recover stolen property and possibly catch the criminal. All pawn tickets are reported to the police department. Also it’s nice to have a place to sell something of value you may not need anymore, when you need to pay bills, possibly saving an eviction or repossesion.

Agreed to all above, pawn shops will thrive in this economy for loans and as a legal fence for stolen goods. My car and another were smash and grabbed during ArtWalk last week…bet our stuff went to one of the downtown/springfeild pawn shops../

Arlington, ditto what AG commented. Look to downtown if you want the crumbled look. :)

Besides the residents ‘needing’ these services, there’s also criminals using them to ‘off’ stolen property and get a better price than they would through fences.

(either nobody in springfield is screaming this like bloody murder or joey kept from including the fact…I’ll never know. lol)
