Jackson, I do not know why it was closed. Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.

there is an artwalk that happens outside of the Library Basement? that’s where all the fun and awesome stuff was.

There may be a possibility of more shows down there before construction starts, but for now, the usage of the library has been limited. We are currently looking for a new venue to continue the shows. I believe they plan to just use the first floor for art walk happenings tonight.

It was fun down there. Sorry to see it go but change is good people. I look forward to the upcoming renovations to the old library and what that will bring to downtown.

Oh no! No I might actually have to venture out and see the rest of downtown. You know, do what Art Walk was actually started for in the first place.

I think this is a good thing. So many people stayed just there because of its scene-y vibe and didn’t even bother going to JMOCA or down by Chew or anywhere near there.

Like that dude Ed said, change is good– stop following the herd and do more than just sit where all teh bloggers said to go.

Good to see the other side of rotten. Except I don’t want people to only do what is on my blog. You wouldn’t be getting out enough. Do more. Be more. Ride the streetcar. Bittersweet to see the library shrink, but should mean more traffic for everyone else so that is good.

That is what I am saying– go out and walk around and see everything. Don’t just sit at the library because of some arbitrary scenster cred rule like some many people did.

@Jonathan Rotten I visit other parts of the art-walk, but the park always feels like a bad flea market, and some of the businesses feel too confined to really enjoy the art. I prefer the openness of the library-area in general.

What’s the plan for the Old Library? What are they looking at doing to it in the future? Hope you’re doing well bro.

@boyd, I am not an authority, but this is the plan as I have heard it:

the bottom floor will be built out for retail, opening the Forsyth side to the street, which will be pretty cool. There are plans for a Urban Grocery store and all this will be topped off with office space on the upper floors.

It’s sad to see the OLB go but hopefully something else will replace it and be even better. I mean Thief in the Night was great, then the OLB, lets see what’s next.

I think a reason a lot of people went only to the OLB is because there was something different every month. I’ve been going to ArtWalk religiously but I get tired of seeing the same art all the time (Artists showing the same pieces for months) thats why I usually found myself ending up at the OLB.

I do want to thank Clay, Crystal, Matt,and Ryan for helping me put on I’m Board 3 there. It was awesome and I’m glad I had the opportunity to put the show on there.
