Just curious, was the brunt of the work done on JEA’s side? How did they know you we’re.. you.

Also, how easy was it for you after seeing the graph to identify what each spike was? (I suppose that depends on the person, but I imagine that some of the lower spikes would be harder to identify).

Judson, from what I can tell JEA is just sending data to Google (or making it available somehow).

I gave JEA the email address associated with my Google account so that’s how Google knows it’s my data. I’ll ask JEA how much work it was to get everything set up, or maybe they will leave a comment.

At this point, it’s difficult for me to identify what the spikes are. The current data is two days behind, so my wife and I were like “What were we doing at 8pm on Thursday that caused such a huge spike?”.

Hopefully once I get into the tutorials, there will be easier ways to identify peaks and valleys.

@wootwoot 1) Criticism is healthy, but at least be big enough to identify yourself 2) although the terms that JEA requested are pretty heavy handed and could of been rejected in the mantra of journalistic integrity, I think disclosing the terms under which the review is being performed and then providing information is an appropriate alternative. You as the reader can then apply the appropriate bias when consuming the information.

Ben: Agreed. Being positive doesn’t mean lying…I am sure if Joey’s experience with PowerMeter isn’t good, we’ll hear about it. But we’ll hear about it a reasoned way, without alot of unecessary venom…

That’s awesome! They had some great info re: power meter on NPR. I think it’s a great way that we can each see the financial benefits of being more aware of the electricity we use. I hope it’s given a good chance to become a success.

Just read the “Trusted Tester Agreement” for PowerMeter and it’s not looking for ongoing information about the program. Will keep you updated.

How do i get a digital power meter? I currently monitor my house electric use with “The Energy Detective”. Right now I’m using 7.8 Kilowatts, (the dryer is running). It’s a great way to save power since it makes you aware of your electric use.

Jim, right now PowerMeter is for select customers and employees. It’s good to know there are other options out there like the energy detective.
