Disqus: New Commenting System on the Way

I’ll be implementing a new commenting system on Urban Jacksonville soon.

Disqus a service and tool for web comments and discussions. The Disqus comment system can be plugged into any website, blog, or application. Disqus makes commenting easier and more interactive, while connecting websites and commenters across a thriving discussion community.

How will Disqus benefit you, the loyal Urban Jacksonville reader? You’ll need to sign up for a Disqus account, but it’s very easy. Also once you have a account you won’t need to enter your name, email, website over and over. You’ll also automatically be recognized on other sites that use Disqus. Here are some more benefits:

Comment with your Facebook or Twitter profile and broadcast comments to your News Feed and Twitter status.
Threaded comments and comment ratings
Track and manage comments and replies
More control over your own comments on websites
Never lose your comments, even if the website goes away
Build a global profile, or comment blog, to collect and show off what you’re saying

How have you liked disqus so far? Has it boosted comments to your site? Seen a decrease in spam/trolls?

Disqus has definitely made it easier to comment on the blog with lots of ways to login (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) Also i think the "tweet this" functionality drives more traffic back to the posts because the comments appear in my Twitter stream.

I have seen a decrease in spam. Disqus + Akismet = little to no spam.

I love the "Reactions" feature. I think all around Disqus pretty much rocks.

Very nice! I use DISQUS on my Tumblr site as well and it's great for capturing the discussion as well as broadcasting it.

Yes, I've been loving it so far. I have to tweak the UI a bit, it's feeling a little chunky and unbranded. What do you think?

Great post! Keep in mind if you enable twitter or Facebook connect on your site, there do not need to sign up.They can just login and comment. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our service.

Great idea, Joey. I've been struggling to get 'typepad connect' commenting on my blogger blog, but disqus seems like an easier way to go. It should be great for increasing dialogue among readers.

I think using Discus is a great idea. I enjoy having a profile already set up and recognizable when I want to comment on a site. Personalization :)
