A very nice account, acclaimed here by Patrick Lockyer, a writer for American Chronicle with musings on many subjects if you google. I love Jacksonville also and came from England nearly ten years ago to Pensacola. I love my beloved London but that is on a different scale. I liked the beach at Pensacola but people were surreal. You could not depend on them in perpetuity. Jacksonville people are that much more cosmopolitan. As to the place, it has just about everything and I am so proud of the new Fountain in Friendship Park. All it needs now is a large floating pontoon. To connect north to south of the river. I came to Jacksonville in July 2005 and have no regrets. I had met the love of my life. I too traveled 12 states on Amtrak to Vermont recently and was pleased to arrive back at Jacksonville Station.

I work with local businesses and I’m always impressed with their competency, optimism, and amiability. They embrace the new even if the changes seem a bit scary!

Jacksonville is a beautiful city that has lots to offer. It's a shame that the crime rate is so high. When you live in a big city your going to find crime, unfortunately. On a postive note, Audrey that's a beautiful photo of downtown Jacksonville. We have had dinner at Benneys downtown, and then sat outside to have dessert and listen to the bands play and watch the boats go by, very relaxing. I also love taking a ride along Hechksher Drive.

First of all, it's great meeting a fellow "My family goes back a long time here" Floridian. We're a rare breed. Secondly, I hope you blog. That was very well put. I still firmly believe that it's people like who we see here on Urban Jacksonville Weekly and positive attitudes that will get this city going where she needs to go. I think Jacksonville could REALLY be a star if encouraged.

as a native fourth generation floridian I'm the first in my family to live in Jacksonville. It is a very interesting city and my family and I do enjoy living here. What I don't like is the GOB and the politics as usual in this place. Just 6 years ago we elected a young mayor who was all about progress. Yeah ok. Before that we did have a mayor that did care about progress, then oompa loompa boy is elected and screech, everything comes to a halt. This city does everything on the cheap from poorly laid roads, poorly drafted contracts, demolishing things instead of encouraging rehabilitation, installing defective street lights and then shrugging when they break, unmowed medians, trash all over the place etc..... I mean its absolutely ridiculous! I lived in Orlando during the time they decided to encourage people to move back downtown. They actually repaved the neighborhood streets with BRICK, made nice sidewalks, encouraged bars and restaurants to open, allowed streetside cafes etc. People moved back. Jacksonville says they want that, but its only lip service. Everyone in this town knows who really runs things (FBC) and really, until that changes this city will remain pretty much the same old story.
