Urban Jacksonville Turns 5 Today

It all started with a post on the Haydon Burns Library. I didn’t know how to spell it back then, but who cares.

5 years, it’s been awesome! Thanks to everyone who’s commented, contributed, loved, hated and told a friend about the blog. Here’s to 5 more years of making Jacksonville a better place to live.

I think the first time I met you was at 9th and Main when government officials were speaking about handing over the Job Corp building to River Region. You were typing away on the laptop on “a little blog for family and friends”

The commitment neccesary to pull off five years is impressive. And staying true to your conception for UJ.
Success offers every opportunity to compromise. UJ hasnt succumbed to that temptation.
Haters and admirers alike must admit that (even if UJ isnt what they thought it might be or isnt going in a direction they think it should ,or is elitest ,or not real journalism,blah ,blah ect ect) Joey Marchy's presentation of his Jacksonville is an important perspective on, and contribution to, our Jacksonville.

I don't know if I've told you this or not yet, but…
Just over a year ago I was sitting in front of my computer in my barracks room in Pol-e-Charkhi, Afghanistan and thinking about what I was going to do when I left that awful place. At the time, I had planned on returning to Jacksonville to finish out the last 4 months of my service and then high-tail it back to Texas. I figured I'd spend those last months doing the absolute coolest shit there was to do in Jacksonville. I googled the hell out of a bunch of different stuff but your website was the first thing that stuck out. I found out about all the cool shit this city has to offer right here on this page. I started my own blog, met some awesome people and I'm still here six months after that initial four and I don't plan on going anywhere soon. Nobody knows the pulse of this city like you do dog! Looking forward to working with you more closely in the future and thanks for all you've done. Keep it up and don't you never quit!
