Tonight on Urban Jacksonville Weekly we’re welcoming guests from The Junior League of Jacksonville to talk about Fostering Futures: Project Backpack.

We are collecting backpacks and gift cards for children entering in and aging out of foster care. These are backpacks, which include personal care items, clothing, and a toy or book. Gift cards to area retail stores or restaurants are used as gifts for older children that are already in foster care.

The Decemberists Ticket Giveaway

I have tickets to The Decemberists concert this weekend. Stay tuned for ticket giveaway details. They will be performing with Laura Veirs & Hall of Flames September 29th 2009 at the St. Augustine Amphitheater.

Zine Collection Opening

The Jacksonville Public Library will be debuting it’s extensive zine collection at Artwalk next week.

Over 150 zines are added and ready for the opening, with more added daily. So by the time this happens, who knows how many we’ll have ready. This event is in the Main Library’s Popular department. Tuffy plays music, you get to watch them and browse the zines. Pick out some you already love or something new to you, and check it on your library card.
