Or, the turnout could just be because this band has been on a SERIOUS decline since 'Picaresque', and those of us who used to love this band think it blows to see them treading in terrible prog-rock waters. A friend offered me free tickets, and 3 or 4 years ago, I would have been all over it. Now? I turned him down as I had zero interest in seeing this band I once loved.

I agree that there SHOULD have been a packed house there. The only reason I could come up with was that it was a Tuesday night during the early part of the school year. The ticket prices were very affordable and honestly...if you left that concert unmoved by the music, you don't have a soul. I do think that, despite the small turn out, the crowd that was there was super enthusiastic and I could actually tell that Colin Meloy was having a good time with those participating.

First off, it was a great show. My wife hated the Decemberists, I mean despised them. I dragged her to the show and by the time they played "The Wanting Comes in Waves" she leaned over to me and said "OK, I'm hooked". Since then she's put them on her iPod, and she is not easily won over when it comes to music. That speaks volumes as to how good this show was.

To comment on what Jack said, I totally agree. It's always disappointing to see such a weak turnout for such a great band. I believe Modest Mouse played on a Wednesday night when they came to St. Augustine and it was a packed house. The lower section was barely even full the few times I turned around and bothered to look. Showings like that almost guarantee that these bands won't return.

I guess it's the "Jaguars syndrome", this generally apathetic pall that sweeps over this city. One can be hopeful, but it wears down on you over time. Big props to people that are really out there pushing and promoting these things. Most people in this city wouldn't know what they would lose without their help.

It being a Tuesday night is hardly an excuse for a lackluster turnout. I was at a show in Orlando featuring three Scottish bands that I would never have heard if I hadn't received the press release and it was packed!

Honestly, I could care less what the turnout at this show was since they're a big time touring band other than that if people don't go to shows, good bands won't come to town.

I realize it isn't the same thing but people really need to support live music, especially the local stuff. It's sad when our local bands have to go out of town to get the respect they deserve and when touring bands pass us up on their tours because not enough people turn out.

Just sayin'.
