So you missed the big opening at MOCA tonight, well don’t worry I did too. Here’s some stuff you can do to commute your sins.
Friday 8:00am - Likemind
Starbucks, 1980 San Marco Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207
Friday, September 19 at 8am
It’s basically a group of interesting people that get together monthly and just talk about whatever is on their minds at the time over coffee. Because talking about interesting things over coffee is fun. That’s it.
I’ll be there, sweaty from my bike ride. Will you?
Friday Night in Springfield
22 West 6th Street at Shantytown Pub
Soul Check with Snacks Blues Band, Corporate Whores, Mike Fout, and more…
Saturday 11:00am - Dog Days in Springfield
Klutho Park in Springfield
This is quite possibly the biggest event Springfield hosts every year. It has surpassed any Heritage Days or Home Tour event you could ever imagine.
The Springfield Animal Care & Rescue Club’s 3rd Annual “Dog Days in the Park” festival takes place this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Klutho Park, Springfield. Admission is free. Attendees will enjoy live music, food, drink, entertainment, vendors and adoptable animals from across the First Coast. More information is available at www.sacarc.org or by calling 904-485-6597.
Food and drink will be available from Joseph’s Pizzeria, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Shantytown Pub. Vendors will offer everything from pet and people photography to treats for dogs and cats. A silent auction will feature thousands of dollars in prizes.
Four Northeast Florida bands will perform, including Christina Wagner, Ron Fisher & Friends, Katie Helow and the Inner Demons. Other activities include a performance by an equestrian drill team, a flyball demo, pet costume contest, blessing of the animals, a karate demonstration and tutorials on dog training and obedience.
There is so much going on I can’t even list it all here. You can find out all the details on the Springfield Animal Care and Rescue website.

Saturday 2:30pm - Change We Need Rally with Barack Obama
Metropolitan Park
1410 Gator Bowl Blvd.
Quite possibly the biggest political event this month, besides the Partisan the Sea show, is Barack Obama’s appearance at Metropolitan Park. Sure McCain was here last week and Von talked about it a little, but this is huge.
Burro Bags will be selling Duval Obama shirts (above), screened right on Main Street at the Buyers Market Lodge. If you don’t want to wait or can’t be there, contact Burro to get a shirt.
