Partisan the Sea Video - Before and After Painting

I’m really getting pumped about the Partisan the Sea show! Last night I took some video of the Churchwell Lofts before and after I painted. In the middle of painting I had a good idea to paint the name of the show on the wall where the art will be displayed.

Does anyone know if any news network will be streaming the presidential debate this Friday?

Partisan the Sea Updates - 5 days away

This Saturday we made some significant progress cleaning up the space and getting ready for the Partisan the Sea show. We moved doors, drywall, trash and swept up about 100 years worth of dust.

Partisan the Sea - 5 Days Away

Lighting, Loft Tours and Bathrooms
Our decision to use the West side of the building instead of the entire space is turning out to be a genius move. I went back to the Churchwell Lofts building Saturday night to see how the lighting was and the West side of the building is good as is. The East side on the other hand would have required significant lighting. People will be able to use the bathrooms in the lofts so we are good on the bathrooms.

There will be loft tours of the Churchwell Lofts so this will be a good chance to get a sneak peek of these pretty awesome units. The loft tours will feature even more artwork from local artists Emmy Cerveny, Susan Britt and Kathy Stark

Here is the schedule over the next couple of days

  • Monday 22nd – Cleaning and painting if anyone wants to help. Bring a roller and a paint tray if you come. I also need to move some tables so whenever there are more than 3 people there we can move the tables.
  • Tuesday 23rd – During the day they will be mopping and setting up fans.
  • Wednesday 24th – Hanging posters and setting up
  • Thursday 25th – Hanging posters and setting up until everything is done. The show will be entirely set up and ready to go on Thursday night, with the exception of any late posters. This includes any AIGA get out the vote posters, etc.

More updates and photos tomorrow.

Bike for Obama on Saturday at 12:15

I hear from a little bird that a gang of bikers will be meeting at the Northbank Riverwalk under the Fuller Warren for an Obama-tastic ride down to Metro Park. Should be fun!

When the rally is done I’m sure people will be riding back into Five Points for the NEXT Art and Design show at Flux Gallery. I also hear people will be heading to the Burrito Gallery to party after the rally.

Dog Days of Springfield

So you missed the big opening at MOCA tonight, well don’t worry I did too. Here’s some stuff you can do to commute your sins.

Friday 8:00am - Likemind
Starbucks, 1980 San Marco Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207
Friday, September 19 at 8am

It’s basically a group of interesting people that get together monthly and just talk about whatever is on their minds at the time over coffee. Because talking about interesting things over coffee is fun. That’s it.

I’ll be there, sweaty from my bike ride. Will you?

Friday Night in Springfield
22 West 6th Street at Shantytown Pub

Soul Check with Snacks Blues Band, Corporate Whores, Mike Fout, and more…

Saturday 11:00am - Dog Days in Springfield
Klutho Park in Springfield

This is quite possibly the biggest event Springfield hosts every year. It has surpassed any Heritage Days or Home Tour event you could ever imagine.

The Springfield Animal Care & Rescue Club’s 3rd Annual “Dog Days in the Park” festival takes place this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Klutho Park, Springfield. Admission is free. Attendees will enjoy live music, food, drink, entertainment, vendors and adoptable animals from across the First Coast. More information is available at www.sacarc.org or by calling 904-485-6597.

Food and drink will be available from Joseph’s Pizzeria, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Shantytown Pub. Vendors will offer everything from pet and people photography to treats for dogs and cats. A silent auction will feature thousands of dollars in prizes.

Four Northeast Florida bands will perform, including Christina Wagner, Ron Fisher & Friends, Katie Helow and the Inner Demons. Other activities include a performance by an equestrian drill team, a flyball demo, pet costume contest, blessing of the animals, a karate demonstration and tutorials on dog training and obedience.

There is so much going on I can’t even list it all here. You can find out all the details on the Springfield Animal Care and Rescue website.

Saturday 2:30pm - Change We Need Rally with Barack Obama
Metropolitan Park
1410 Gator Bowl Blvd.

Quite possibly the biggest political event this month, besides the Partisan the Sea show, is Barack Obama’s appearance at Metropolitan Park. Sure McCain was here last week and Von talked about it a little, but this is huge.

Burro Bags will be selling Duval Obama shirts (above), screened right on Main Street at the Buyers Market Lodge. If you don’t want to wait or can’t be there, contact Burro to get a shirt.

Obama Duval Shirts for Sale

City Pressures Force TSI To Become 21 and Up Venue

In a comment on The Pearl DART raid TSI announced their plans to become a 21+ club. Here’s what the comment said if you’re too lazy to click on the link above:

We regret to inform you that due to pressure from new city and state regulators TSI has decided to become a 21 and up venue. We appreciate ALL of our patrons and everything everyone has done to support us.

Don’t the leaders of our city understand they are suppressing the one force that can help rescue the Downtown core: the youth. It has been proven time and again that youth and art culture are a driving force in revitalizing failing urban areas. Sometimes I feel like no one is listening. Grrrr.
