This is not only one of the most talented cats I’ve ever seen on a skateboard. But, he’s also hands down- THE most talented skater I’ve seen come out of Jacksonville, since the turn of the century. With that said. I’m more than proud to introduce this cat to the skateboard world – Clyde Singleton

The MC also known as BlakHart is tough to keep track of – the guy’s Internet presence is, like, nil these days, which in this day and age is unheard of, and all the more intriguing for it. Hip Hop Hell says “Jacksonville legend … known for his work with The IG Camp and The Funkmonsta.
Proper EP release coming on HHH Records with Delectable Beats.” His older stuff at BlakHart’s Myspace page showcases a seriously listenable mix of old-school gangsta and clubby refrains, but with a bit of upbeat vibe thrown in. It’s a pretty undeniable style that could easily climb into the mainstream consciousness without sacrificing any cred.
He is performing the second day of Summertime in the City at Shantytown in Springfield.
Day 2: Summertime in the City Grand Finale Blowout presented by HIP HOP HELL and Red Bull Music Academy

If you think Jack Diablo produces the show and turns in for the week, oh no. He’s a true renaissance man. His Urban Jacksonville Weekly duties just kick off the week. He details the rest of his days in his post Gainfully Unemployed.
We’re excited to have Jack on the team. He’ll be writing show notes, doing a local music segment and monitoring Twitter and Facebook for any questions you might have for our special Urban Jacksonville Weekly guest: Tough Junkie.

Tough Junkie’s initial foray into hip hop may have been akin to a kid with a chemistry set, crafting beats out of tape decks to accompany his rhymes the way an aspiring young scientist might mix the contents of test tubes to get a reaction. Junkie’s been getting a reaction here in Jacksonville for years, a positive one, and now after years in the lab obsessing, perfecting, evolving, the rest of the world will be exposed to one of Jacksonville’s best kept secrets.

He’s a REAX favorite, with a soulful, socially conscious style that recalls the heyday of Boogie Down Productions, Gang Starr and some of the Native Tongue crew. Mr. Al Pete’s got deep roots in the Jacksonville hip-hop community, and close ties to such equally talented local heroes as The Elevated Hip Hop Experience and Tough Junkie.
He’s nearly as well known for his DJ skills and the entrepreneurial spirit of his shingle Grown Folk Entertainment as for his rhymes and vocals, but the release of his full-length Talk About It a few months back definitely puts his talents as MC and producer way, way out front.

Straight from “Duuuval!” aka J-Ville, aka Jacksonville, Florida, my man Dillon got his start around the small contingent of successful hip hop artists from the area in the form of The Alias Brothers aka Asamov, who members Therapy and Willie Evans Jr continue to make noise, Willie on the solo creep and Therapy as part of WYDU favorite, The Smile Rays. Dillon now resides in the ATL, but still keeps his Duval roots, remaining close to those from his hometown.
You can find Dillon on MySpace and here are some videos. Mainly promoting other artists, friends and cooking, but it shows what a tight knit the hip hop community is in Jacksonville.
Dillon will be appearing the first day of Summertime in the City at TSI in Downtown Jacksonville.

The Dope Sandwich website describes this collective better than I could:
Dope Sandwich is a Hip-Hop collective that has taken the city of Savannah GA by storm over the past years. What started as a secret society of MC’s, DJ’s, B-Boys, and Graph artists, DSP is quickly becoming the voice of alternative Hip hop around the coastal South East. The bio goes on to say:
They own a live show that plays like a nonstop party, and truly have something for everyone. You have to see it to believe it.
Blue Collar – Bottoms Up
Lucky you! They are playing the second day of Summertime in the City at Shantytown in Springfield.

Renn examines data that suggest job growth (or decline) in a metro region's core counties is a good indicator for the overall health of those regions. Renn argues that it's important to keep a close eye on what's happening in the urban core in order to forestall the kind of catastrophic decline we've seen in places like Detroit and Cleveland.
City Hall auditors say the Jacksonville Transportation Authority used about $50 million in Better Jacksonville funds for projects that weren’t part of the voter-approved plan and won’t release the money for those JTA projects.
