Duval GOP Posters Liken Obama to Hitler

While the imagery is striking, it’s not the first president I’ve seen characterized as Hitler:

fearbush

In the post Duval GOP In Controversy Over Obama/Hitler Comparisons At Tea Party JaxPolitics points out:

Several local GOP activists privately expressed shock that elected officials would be seen at any event that featured comparisons of Obama with Hitler. What surprised some of them the most; however, was the fact that the Duval County Republican Party would feature pictures from the event—complete with Obama/Hitler comparisons—on their Facebook fan page.

While the party has stated that they did not officially “plan” the event, the fact that they heavily promoted it and featured the controversial pictures on their website, has left them open to the ensuing controversy.

So, while I can’t fault individual freedom of speech, it seems a little irresponsible for the Duval County Republican Party to post photos of the event and the posters in question on their Facebook page. Especially in the light of some attendees: Florida State Representatives Lake Ray, Charles McBurney and Mike Weinstein and Florida State Senator Stephen Wise.

Obama Signs Comin At Cha

Here it is people. It’s what you’ve been waiting for. It’s what I get 5-6 phone calls a day about. Barack Obama signs! This event will begin Friday at 5pm at 1520 Main Street (AKA The Buyers Market, AKA Bikes Bags and Beats). 5th and Main, next to Chan’s Chinese. Free Obama signs, wood stakes and all!

Burro Bags

The so-called Green Retail Tour gives you a chance to check out Zombie Bikes, Burro Bags and The Royal Treatment Record shop. You will also meet Jay McGovern who is running against Ander Crenshaw for US Congress District 4.

Jay speaks at 6 for 15 minutes and hopefully will be available for any questions you may have. He is running in a tighter than anticipated race. The Obama tidal wave may just help Jay do the impossible. It is hard to believe that an engineer and bio fuel producer, retired military pilot and small business owner is the underdog to an investment banker turned politician.

At 6:15, head over to Shantytown for free beer compliments of Shantytown, Tony Allegretti and John Mills.

Return of the City

So you don’t have $100 cash to get into the Return of the City Obama fundraiser? Now there is a way to volunteer time to the campaign in exchange for monetary credits towards your $100 ticket. Here’s how it works:

Each hour you volunteer to the Obama campaign will count towards $10 of your $100 ticket:

For every one hour of phone banking or canvassing (you pick the work) you pledge to do for the campaign, we’ll knock off $10 towards the party– all the way up to the $100 ticket price. Pledge ten hours and you are in.

Sign up now to volunteer

This party will feature the art of Steve Forster and live DJs Biggie Tea, Owen Holmes of The Black Kids and yours truly, DJ Joe E Fresh. The party is at a house in Avondale on September 16th, 2008 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

Eat, Drink, Change. The hosts of this art opening and fundraiser hope to celebrate the excellent quality of life in our progressive, diverse, walkable, and beautiful urban neighborhoods. We encourage you to patronize the taverns and eateries of the Shoppes of Avondale before and after the opening. Hosted by John Mills & Tony Allegretti at 1852 Talbot Avenue in the Heart of Avondale.

Return of the City

Yeah! It’s good to be back, and there’s no better day to return than your birthday. Yes, today is my birthday. No gifts please, just swing by Mark’s tonight to see me and Biggie Tea. I promise, no birthday songs. I will be playing an all Funk set, thanks to Ian Ranne who inspired me to search out some old school funk.

There was a blog birthday while I was out. Congrats Urban Core on 3 years of Mark’s and Art Walk posts.

I’m going to ease back into this bloggin thang by announcing a sweet-ass Obama fundraiser I’m involved with. If you saw Obama speak at the DNC last week then you’re probably pretty excited about the presidential race right now.

Harness that energy by attending Return of the City a fundraiser, art show, DJ party with food and drink. It’s only $100.00 per person and all money goes directly to the Barack Obama campaign.

This party will feature the art of Steve Forster and live DJs Biggie Tea, Owen Holmes of The Black Kids and yours truly, DJ Joe E Fresh. The party is at a house in Avondale on September 16th, 2008 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

There is limited space for this event so an RSVP is required. You can RSVP by emailing BOBAMA@APPELLATE-FIRM.COM
