If you think Jack Diablo produces the show and turns in for the week, oh no. He’s a true renaissance man. His Urban Jacksonville Weekly duties just kick off the week. He details the rest of his days in his post Gainfully Unemployed.
We’re excited to have Jack on the team. He’ll be writing show notes, doing a local music segment and monitoring Twitter and Facebook for any questions you might have for our special Urban Jacksonville Weekly guest: Tough Junkie.

Tough Junkie’s initial foray into hip hop may have been akin to a kid with a chemistry set, crafting beats out of tape decks to accompany his rhymes the way an aspiring young scientist might mix the contents of test tubes to get a reaction. Junkie’s been getting a reaction here in Jacksonville for years, a positive one, and now after years in the lab obsessing, perfecting, evolving, the rest of the world will be exposed to one of Jacksonville’s best kept secrets.

Google Reader helped me get a grasp on all my news sources. I’ve found a great new workflow with Google Reader that allows me to fly through 60-70 Jacksonville related posts per day. I enjoy using the share functionality for items I don’t have time to post on Urban Jacksonville. You can view my shared items page or subscribe to the RSS feed.
The The Jacksonville Observer launched this weekend. It’s a cool idea but there’s is too much syndicated content for me. I’d love to see more Jacksonville related stories. Tom Patton, who writes for The Jacksonville Observer, talks about the new site.
a business model is emerging up that has local people covering local stories and leaving the big national stories alone. With so many outlets devoted to the big national stories, local coverage sometimes seems to get short shrift. In hyper-local journalism, the marketplace may again be giving us insight as to what people want to read and understand. One might think that’s counter-intuitive on the “worldwide web”, and yet it speaks to a readership that is interested in their communities, and have found the web to be a perfect delivery vehicle for that content.
It’s revolutionary for Jacksonville and I commend Austin Cassidy for pulling it together. I have a plan like this too, but I’m laying back for a second to work on some other projects.
JaxScene posts some traffic numbers and reminds everyone they forgot to tell JaxScene happy birthday. Happy birthday on 1-year JaxScene. It’s a feat of dedication and love for the community, we’re lucky to have you.
Ok ok, it’s hard to get me out to the beach but I’m definately heading out to see Flosstradamus at the Ocean Club. I saw them do a set last year at SXSW and it was awesome, fun, mind-blowing, shake yr ass, all that.
So this is my official endorsement of the show. Not sure when they will start and does anyone know if this place has a dress code? Maybe not for Friday night.
ALSO! Hip Hop Hell Showcase before Flosstradamus with Tough Junkie, The N Word, Heavy Flow, Dr. Sam Beckett, Mr. Al Pete. Get there by 10pm to see Tough Junkie set it off! Ian says “I cannot stress the importance of arriving early to this show.” He’s right, it should blow up.
The Law Offices of Eddie Farah have announced plans to renovate the historic Kress Building and convert the former Lerner Shops site into an urban courty

Bahri Gas and Convenience Store is the latest project slated for Main Street. If it becomes a reality, this project will be built at one of downtown's most visible intersections.
Renn examines data that suggest job growth (or decline) in a metro region's core counties is a good indicator for the overall health of those regions. Renn argues that it's important to keep a close eye on what's happening in the urban core in order to forestall the kind of catastrophic decline we've seen in places like Detroit and Cleveland.
City Hall auditors say the Jacksonville Transportation Authority used about $50 million in Better Jacksonville funds for projects that weren’t part of the voter-approved plan and won’t release the money for those JTA projects.
The latest addition to Downtown’s Entertainment Zone around East Bay Street and the area around the Florida Theatre has another venue that’s attracting a crowd. The grand opening of Lit at 11 N. Ocean St. won’t be for a few more weeks but Downtown workers and residents have already discovered the new watering hole.
Mayor John Peyton wants to spend $395,000 on a 210-foot-long floating dock and 60-foot gangway near the popular Saturday destination under the Fuller Warren Bridge. Eleven of 19 Jacksonville City Council members have signed on to co-sponsor Peyton's bill, which will be introduced at Tuesday's council meeting.
Once built, water taxi passengers and boaters will have direct access from the St. Johns River to the market on the Northbank Riverwalk.
